Time for An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October

January 17, 2013

One of my favorite singers has just announced his solo tour to highlight the release of the third edition of his book! Yes, Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October has just announced dates for his solo tour titled, “An Open Book” An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October.  This coincides with release of the expanded 3rd edition of his book of lyrics and writings dubbed “Crazy Making” due out on April 1, 2013. These shows sound like they are going to be a lot fun and insightful as to the writings of Justin. Included with spoken word by Justin, there will be a Q & A session, and acoustic songs. You can also buy one of the very limited meet and greets with Justin and sit in on his sound check. As soon as I got the email, I got our tickets to the Santa Ana show at the Observatory on April 5, 2013. This should be perfect timing for Ryan to finish the vest that he made for Justin. We saw Blue October just [Read More]

Haunted by Heroes heading back to the Whiskey for CD Release Party!

January 15, 2013

With NAMM being almost a week away, I need to tell you about another band that will be playing at the Whiskey during NAMM week. Haunted by Heroes are known as the World’s Youngest Rock Band and these kids will be rocking the Whiskey on January 25th opening for Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions) & Warren DeMartini (RATT). What an incredible talent these boys have and they haven’t even hit their teen years yet! I actually saw them play last year at NAMM and was blown away by their energy at their young ages. If you closed your eyes when you listened to them, you would have never imagined that the great rock and roll was coming from a group of 12 year olds! At the time, I didn’t know where they were from but I did hear a lot of buzz about these kids. I was even more surprised to find out they were also from the Bay Area. I loved growing up in San Mateo and it is awesome to have these kids be from Pacifica. [Read More]

Besides getting to check out the latest in music gear as well as get to see and talk to so many interesting musicians, I always look forward to what the nightlife brings during NAMM week.  Every year, in addition to the long days at the Anaheim Convention Center there is a multitude of great bands playing throughout the Southern California area and all are hoping that you get to check them out. I have so many shows planned to cover for that week and I just recently added another one to my schedule. After listening to them I had to fit them in! Allow me to introduce you to an awesome Rock band from Phoenix, Arizona; While She Waits. These guys are delivering great rock and roll with a Southern flare that I am excited about.  They already have an extensive following in the Phoenix area and have been nominated for Phoenix’ Best New Hard Rock Song. Christian Martucci, creating a scene for great music!

January 6, 2013

Christian Martucci I am excited to tell you about Christian Martucci’s new solo project. I have my IPod filled with great songs from Christian’s past and they are some of my favorite songs. From “Nowhere Ride” by The Chelsea Smiles to “Last Fucking Hope” by Black President and to “Shine”, “Downsider” and “Lights Out” from “Thousand Watt Stare“. Christian is just purely awesome on guitar and vocals. He has such a great unique sound that just draws you in and energizes you. In my previous post from Thousand Watt Stare I described his voice as “Ramones with a touch of Johnny Rotten and a dash of Elvis Costello which is an incredible combination.”   He is like liquid adrenaline running through your veins. Well, Christian is currently getting ready to release his new EP titled, “Man Without a Name”. If you are lucky enough to be in the Los Angeles area you can go to their album release which is scheduled for January 11th, 2013 at one of my favorite old stomping grounds, The Viper Room.
