ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: J.R. Bones releases 1st LP in 5 years, Slow Lightning

October 13, 2023

Today, the New York-based artist The Bones of J.R. Jones (a.k.a. Jonathon Linaberry) released his first studio album in more than five years, Slow Lightning via Tone Tree Music. Jonathon Linaberry comments: “‘Slow lightning’ is about a power you can’t control. A force that’s bigger than you and follows its own path no matter how badly you want to mold or direct it. That’s what this record felt like, and it’s something I had to figure out how to embrace.” As the title suggests, the 12-track collection Slow Lightning is raw and visceral, pulsating with an understated electrical current that flows through his cinematic brand of roots noir. The songs grapple with doubt and desire in the face of nature and fate, and frequent collaborator Kiyoshi Matsuyama’s production is eerily hypnotic to match, with haunting synthesizers, vintage drum machines, and ghostly guitars.   “I felt very lost at the time I was writing these songs,” Linaberry confesses. “It was a moment of deep crisis and anxiety, but I knew the only way out was through, which meant I [Read More]

October 12, 2023

Wednesday nights can be hard to get through as you anticipate the arrival of the weekend.  Last night was the perfect mid week pick-me-up as MisterWives brought their Don’t Look Down Tour to the Warfield in San Francisco. The night opened with a set by Natalie Jane and she wowed the crowed with her powerful vocals. Next up was the amazing Bishop Briggs who really brought the energy and spark. Finally MisterWives came out to an eruption of cheer and screams as they hit the stage and delivered 150% non-stop energy.  They came out to Out of Your Mind and then straight into Dagger. The crowd was loving every second of it as the excitement raced through the crowd.  The set was spectacular and the lighting was the perfect complement to the spot on sound of the band.  The set continued with full force all the way until the final song of Nosebleeds, the title track of their highly praised fourth studio album, that had everyone singing along. Everclear returns to San Francisco for a night to remember at August Hall

October 11, 2023

Last night we trekked out to San Francisco for the return of Everclear. They brought their headlining fall tour to the August Hall and it was truly a night to never forget.  The evening kicked off with a killer set by The Pink Spiders. They got the crowd revved up and we were immediately hooked from the start. Next up The Ataris came and gave us an incredible dose of punk high energy rock and we were there for it all. The adrenaline was soaring through the venue and you couldn’t help but move around. Everyone was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Everclear and once they hit the stage, it was as if we entered a time machine. The set took us straight back to the 90s with spot on sound.  The nostalgic vibe was an immediate mood elevator for all. The crowd which was full of long time fans and younger ones.  But one thing was certain, they knew all the words and were happily singing along. Check out photos from our Rockin Ryan: [Read More]

The Vaccines Release New Single “Sometimes, I Swear” off upcoming album

October 11, 2023

We got a new song for you to check out! The Vaccines have just released their new track, Sometimes, I Swear which is the latest single off their forthcoming album  Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations, which releases January 12 via Thirty Tigers. Check out the new song here: Lead singer Justin Young comments, “Like many songs before it, ‘Sometimes, I Swear’ began life as Tim and I sat on my sofa in London. I don’t think there are many places on the planet where I feel so at peace as sitting in my own home, but even there I constantly question my place in the world. I think the innate human need to be part of something – to connect with each other in a community or a congregation – is what keeps driving us forward and searching for meaning. It’s something many of us struggle with on a daily basis, but I hope when people hear this song they’ll feel less alone in that struggle.”  About the new album “Like many songs before it, ‘Sometimes, [Read More]
