Let me tell you: It was in more than one way an outstanding experience….

The club the show went down yesterday is a very small club in the heart of Munich. It was a sold out show and people already lined up around the corner. Doors were announced for 8.30 pm to open. Show start is usually 9.30 pm. Like most nights it was about -5 Celsius (about 23 Fahrenheit) and the air was slightly wet and felt therefore colder. So everyone was hoping for doors to open soon, but…..it took them over one hour to actually open that door. It was about 9.35 pm, when they actually let people in. It took until approx. 10 until all people were inside and at about 10.15 pm Fearless Vampire Killers entered the stage and played… 3 songs. The shortest set I’ve ever seen. Actually there would’ve been a third band on the bill, Starset, but as it turned out, they didn’t play at all. Unfortunately there’s not too much I could tell you about the set, as it was so short. I saw them once in London with Black Veil Brides (https://musicjunkiepress.com/rock/concert-review-black-veil-brides-black-mass-tour-2014-o2-academy-brixton-london/) and they were awesome. I would’ve loved to see more of them, but it seems there wasn’t time for more songs. The three songs they played were great. I saw some people buy CD’s, so they seem to have left some impression, but a longer set would’ve been helpful. FVK released their first CD ‘Militia of the lost” in 2012. Their current album ‘Unbreakable hearts’ was released in the UK in 2014. It’s produced by William Control and that fact alone speaks for itself. I’m hoping they come back soon, since they are from the UK it’s not that far to Germany, so I guess we might have good chances there. It was their first show in Germany. It wasn’t the best start, but I hope that won’t hold them back to play here again soon (hint, hint).

So after Fearless played, the building of the stage for In This Moment began. It took about an hour until everything was set up and running. From what I heard from local security there were technical difficulties the whole evening long. And those problems weren’t over, ‘cause they even started one song again. Maria Brink, the singer, told the audience how very sorry she was for all the inconveniences and you could tell she was really bothered by it. It was about 11.35 pm when In This Moment started. The stage was almost too small to build the whole set up, but they managed to find a spot for the circular platform. It was exactly the same stage design they used on The Black Widow Tour in the US, just on a super small stage. The drum kit was on the left side behind the podium and the guitarists and bass-player stood beside and behind the platform. Everyone was squeezed onto that small space. They had two female dancers with them. For every song they and Maria changed their looks and dresses. There were different gimmicks on stage for every song, like f.e. a speaker’s desk for the song ‘Sex Metal Barbie’. In This Moment started their set with the song ‘Sick Like Me’, followed by ‘Adrenalize’ and ‘Sex Metal Barbie’. After that a cage was set up for the performance of their current single ‘Big Bad Wolf”. Then came an instrumental medley and with the song ‘Whore’, that fans eagerly waited for, they closed their extremely short set. It was 5 minutes past midnight by then. But they had to stop playing, ‘cause shows have to end by that time in Munich. So it was really not their choice to end it here. Usually their set-list consists of 12 songs. So it was only half a set. At the end the apologized again and promised the fans (some of them even drove a few hours from Austria to Munich) to make it up again soon. You could see the surprised look on everyone’s faces, when the concert ended so abruptly, but nobody protested in any way.

So, like I said, this was an outstanding show in every way. To sum it all up, it was an awesome performance for eyes and ears definitely. I’d have loved to see a full set and will sure catch up with the band next time they are around. As for the opening bands that couldn’t play or had only a short set, I hope for them to come back really soon with a better chance to present themselves.

UPDATE: In This Moment posted the following statement on their Facebook page in regards to the show:

Attn: Munich fans,
We would like to sincerely apologize for what happened yesterday, it was for us the worst show (tech wise) in the last few years, there were many issues, from the wrong equipment being sent out to us, power issues in the club, and other numerous issues we couldn’t foresee, we traveled for many hours and spent lots of money to bring a special show to you and unfortunately things didn’t work out as planned. We will be back and hope to make it up to you asap. That being said, the fans that we did meet were incredible and we love you and appreciate you more than words can say.

Sincerely
In This Moment
