From the San Francisco area, Alliances is a new band with a refreshing sound! They’re working hard to create new modern rock music for your ears. Drift & Die Press recently spoke with the band about their newest release, hopes for the future, and more!

DND: Where are you guys from?

Benny Laing: Were all from different parts of the S.F. Bay area in California.

DND: How’s the local scene for you?

Benny: Right now our local scene is a little oversaturated with hardcore bands, and shifty booking agents, but it’s nothing new to us. We’ve all come from different bands from around the area and have been very active in the local music scene for years now. We’re hoping to stand out with our unique rock style and live performance.

DND: What’s your favorite gig you’ve played so far?

Jeremy Alfonso: We just released our first album ever in June and have only played one debut show so far at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. So that one is def our favorite haha. They serve some seriously tasty pizza there as well.

DND: Tell me about the creation process of your recent release, The Art of Lying and Lying Again?

Benny: The Art of Lying and Lying Again was a year in the works before it was finally released in June 2015. The album was written and recorded by myself at my home studio, with a few small tweaks here and there by the rest of the guys as we began to finalize the album. We’ve all been in different bands together at different times in the past. So, a lot of the creative writing process was left up to me, since I have played that role in pretty much every band I’ve been in before with our current lineup.

DND: Which of the five songs is your personal favorite & why?

Nick Lohman: “Houdini” is my favorite, probably because it allows for the most energetic perfromance from us. It’s also a song with a very strong message behind it, that I feel anyone who has ever had to deal with the feeling of either rejection or loss could relate to.

DND: Can you give us a little insight towards what you’re working on at the moment?

Benny: We just released our own cover of The Weeknd – “Can’t Feel My Face” on Youtube and it’s gotten some pretty impressive feedback so far. We’ll be filming a music video very soon for one of the songs off The Art of Lying and Lying Again and will have that up as soon as it’s ready. Meanwhile, we’re always writing and trying our best to deliver new content for our fans as often as possible, along with playing quality shows around our area. Keep an eye out for a few really awesome playthrough videos that will also be on our YouTube over the month of August!

DND: What 3 albums would you want to buried with?

Jeremy: Underoath’s They’re Only Chasing Safety, The Black Dahlia Murder’s Miasma, and Ludacris’ Word of Mouf

Adrian Salanga: The Starting Line’s Say It Like You Mean It, Acceptance’s Phantoms, Slipknot’s Iowa, annnndd an Honorable mention to Every Time I Die’s Hot Damn!

Benny: New Found Glory’s self entities, Born of Osiris’ The New Reign, and Weezer’s The Blue Album

DND: If you could play any city in the world, where would it be?

Nick: Anywhere in Australia. Yes, that’s country/continent, but we all love animals, deadly or not, and would jump at the chance to play somewhere like Sydney or Melbourne!

DND: Finally, where would you like to be in your careers a year from now?

Benny: Touring Europe is a goal we have all set for ourselves, since we have yet to go on any international tours in our previous projects. It seems like we could be there in a year’s time, no problem, with the help and support of fans and new music lovers everywhere.
