Singer/Songwriter Joel Poe has some exciting news to share with his fans.  He may have been away from social media for a while now, but it doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been busy.  You might be wondering about why he was so absent from social media and Joel explains to us,

-I’ve been taking a break from anything serious lately. I’ve felt like I needed some time to get myself together after my last relationship. To rethink what I wanna do, not only as an artist but as a person.
So I’ve basically just been living one day at the time, hanging out with friends, playing video games, spending time with my family.
I’ve missed the feeling of just being me without having to worry about what people say or think. I’ve had a public life since a very early age as you may know. And it’s been so hard to balance my personal life with my public one. People feel entitled to criticize me on everything I do, including my looks.
Recently I changed my hair drastically, but just because this is the true me. I’m a natural blonde, this is my real self. But many many people went on my social media to just hate on the fact that I’m not the “emo kid” people are used to seeing, and expect me to be.
I’m just tired of being what people expect. I am myself, and I will be myself unapologetically.

In addition to being away from the social media, Joel gave us some insight as to why he has not released any new music in over two years,

First of all I was legally forced to not release any new music under Standby Records for almost a year following the release of my debut album . After that we settled and parted ways as most people know. But i have been writing a lot of new music that i plan to release sometime next year. I just don’t know when. But when I do, I want to feel proud of it. I wanna make an album with music that really comes from my heart and that people can relate to. Nonetheless I will be visiting my friend Matthew Donovan in New York pretty soon  to do a collaboration with his band PastTimes. I will keep you posted about this!

We look forward to the collaboration and can’t wait to hear what Joel has in store for us all. But for now, we are excited to announce that Joel has been cast in an upcoming Navajo Joe Film Production, Nobody’s Boy.  It is a wonderful opportunity for Joel and we can’t wait to learn more about the film. Joel comments,

“This is something I’m very excited about. And I’m extremely honored to have been casted by director Harrison J. Bahe to be the protagonist of his next serious production. I’ve been a fan of his work for a long time and to have the opportunity to work in one of his films is just super cool. “

Of course, Joel can ‘t tell us much about the film but he does share with us,

“Nobody’s boy” is a story about someone who is struggling with life. A boy from the streets who doesn’t know where he belongs and experiences a lot of things. All I can say is from the moment I read the script I fell involve with the character!

Joel tells us more about how he was cast in the film,

“Well first of all I’ve always wanted to meet Harrison. I remember watching one of his films called  “Requiem”  and being in tears by the end of the film. So I wrote him a letter and to my surprise he replied and from there we started talking and humoring the idea of working together on a film. He’s a wonderful person and we’ve gone through many similar life experiences. I’m just very happy to be a part of this film with him. I think it’s going to blow people’s minds as it touches on a lot of social issues that our youth experiences these days, specially the LGBT community.”

It is a new experience for Joel and we know that with his determination and dedication, he will put himself fully into the film. Of course with new territory comes excitement and fears. Joel tells us about what he is most looking forward to and what he is most afraid of,

  • Well I’m looking forward to doing something completely different for once. I love new experiences and what they bring. Acting isn’t something I’m completely new to, since not only I started as a YouTuber but I also have appeared on TV as a kid. But what I’m looking forward to the most is the experience of being a part of a film. And to work with Harrison J. Bahe whom I consider and extremely talented cinematographer.
  • What scares me the most is that I will have to be naked A LOT. There are plenty of nude scenes and sex scenes that I’m preparing for in advance and also anticipating. I have never been naked in front of a camera so it’ll certainly be a challenge and that makes it very scary but also very exciting. I’m doing a lot of physical preparation for this role is all I can say.

We wish all the best to Joel in this new endeavor and look forward to the film. Joel has a special message he would like to share with his dedicated fans,

I just wanted to say to my fans that I’m sorry I haven’t been there for them as much as I’d want to. But things not always go according to plan and unfortunately I had to make the decision to step out of the spotlight for a minute. But I will be back, and when I do, I have to be proud of it.
And as always, Stay Positive!
