Concert Review & Video Interview: Fearless Vampire Killers in Munich at Backstage Club

It’s been only about three months since FVK (aka Fearless Vampire Killers) last played in Europe. They’ve been out on tour with Escape The Fate then. But finally now, after four times playing as an opening band, they were out on their first European headline tour, which also led them to Munich.

First headline tours always carry a risk, because it’s hard to say how many people will really come to the shows, so I was curious who would show up. As one could expect the majority of the audience were young females, but there were also a few guys rocking out.

It was pretty quiet, when I got to the Backstage. Usually there’s lots of people hanging around, waiting for the clubs to open. That night it was only one out of three differently sized venues that was busy and that was where I was heading.

We had an interview scheduled with the band before show time, so we waited outside until the band was ready for it. Laurence Beveridge (vocals/guitar) and Drew Woolnough (bass) were our interview partners. We talked about the tour, the recent record and videos and much more. Check it out here:

The set started at about 9.20 pm with ‘Say What You Want From Me’, the first song from their record ‘Unbreakable Hearts’. They played all the titles from their recent EP ‘Bruises’ except ‘Danger’ and a good mix from their other records, like ‘Neon In The Dance Halls’, ‘Maeby’, ‘Bowties On Dead Guys’ and ‘All Hallows Evil’. Kier and Laurence, both singer and guitarists switch vocals and guitar about every second to third song. Usually each of them sings the songs he has written. While both have an awesome performance on both vocals and guitar, Laurence is quite theatrical in his way of ‘reliving’ the songs on stage.

FVK always deliver a very energetic set. No time to breath and a perfect mix of the many songs they can choose from. That was no different that night. With being the headlining band the audience this time was able to hear a fair amount of their songs live. The one hour set allowed the band to play 15 songs.

After the show, they hung out with the people to talk, take pictures and give autographs.

With the release of ‘Bruises’ FVK gained more and more attention. They are a pretty hard working, dedicated band and I hope they come back soon. With so many bands out touring and releasing music these days, it’s hard to get the attention of the people. FVK’s music though is different, it’s melodic, sometimes epic and there’s a big variety in the songs.
