It was nearly two years to the date, that we last interviewed Austin Winkler as he was forging ahead in the new chapter of his musical career after departing Hinder. He has been quite busy for the past two years working on writing, recording and creating his own path on his musical journey.  Austin Winkler recently released his first EP titled Love Sick Radio, under the name Austin John and it is a great collection of six very diverse and creative songs that will have you hooked on his new style of music.

His new music has taken him into a different musical direction than his work with Hinder. It has given him the opportunity to embrace his creative freedom and embark into uncharted waters. Austin comments,

“It’s a very exciting time for me. It’s been a long time in the making and I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised at the musical direction I took when I stepped into the studio to make this record. It’s quite a bit different from Hinder or anything that I’ve ever done.”

We had the chance to chat once again with Austin and discuss his new EP and what is next in store for Austin John. We are pleased to bring you the interview here:

We truly look forward to the road ahead for Austin and to catching him out on tour. Of course many fans identify a band with the frontman and when they depart, they are waiting for the vocalist to replicate the sound of their former band. Austin was such a powerful frontman and some fans might find his music too far from what he was doing before, but this is the true Austin, he didn’t want to go back into the studio and adapt to what the fans wanted. He is doing exactly what he wants to do. When he went into the studio, he had one thing in mind: “To be as open and honest as I can be with nothing to lose!” Once fans take a listen, they will definitely renew their love for that signature voice of Austin.

We hope you pick up the EP, Love Sick Radio on iTunes here.  We have been having it on replay here at the office and each song becomes a standout song on it’s own. Some moments I can declare Clique to Follow as my fave, but then the true vulnerability of Carry You brings it to the forefront. Road to Paradise has this amazing fun summer vibe that will have you hooked and make it your fave, shortly after you are going back to  Howlin’ ft. Jesse James Decker and be in awe of the chemistry they bring to the country style song. Yes it is hard to pick one fave so why not just enjoy them all.

Make sure to visit his social media sites and stay up to date on his latest news.
