New York City Rockers, Ionia have released an epic cinematic video for their song, They Look Like Big Strong Hands Don’t They and I hope you had a chance to check it out. The song is absolutely captivating as the emotionally driven lyrics just seem to reach out to you and pick you up from where ever you have been or whatever you are struggling with. It is stellar and will take you on a musical journey of emotions, leading you right to where you belong. Their music will feed your soul. Check out the video here:

The song is their second single off Captain Humility and you can pick up it up on iTunes. Ionia are currently in the studio recording their new EP, Postcards From The Edge: Chapter 1. Delta 32, with Mike Sapone (Brand NewTaking Back Sunday) which I am very excited about. We had the opportunity to talk with Ionia about their video and what they are currently working on. We are pleased to bring you that interview here:

Music Junkie Press: Thank you so much for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press. We absolutely love your video for They Look Like Big Strong Hands Don’t They. Powerful, cinematic and very hearfelt, Can you tell me more about the song and the inspiration behind it?

Blaise: Thanks for watching, and enjoying! The song is about all the forces that can drive you down in life and realizing that pride, sooner or later, will negate ones own progress towards evolution. The inspiration for the video was the idea of chasing the child like innocence that you inevitably lose when you reach adulthood, and how important that part of you is to maintan a life of optimism and hope. I would urge you and all people who enjoy our music to go back and watch all the three chapters in order (“Mutiny,” “Captain Humility,” and “Big Strong Hands”) to get the full experience that these are all one complete film.

Music Junkie Press: We first saw you perform a couple years back and you blew us away. I am excited to hear that you are currently working on a new EP, can you tell us more about it and what can we expect from it?

Blaise: Thank you so much. We are currently gearing up to release POST CARDS FROM THE EDGE. CHAPTER 1 DELTA 32. I can’t tell you much more, except that it is the next step in our journey together.

Music Junkie Press: Your music brings real emotion and honesty to your songs, do you have a particular song writing process in order to achieve this?

Blaise: I (Blaise) write the songs on piano or guitar and we hash them out as band, there is no right way to write. I don’t believe that songs need to stick to any formula except that they need to come from a genuine place. Without heart there is no beat.

Music Junkie Press: You guys really bring out the best in others and always have such uplifting messages for your fans, how is it for you when fans tell you how your music or messages have helped them through a situation?

Blaise: There is nothing that means more to us then having a real connection to others through our music. We do not care about being worshiped. We value coming together and touching others with our music the way music has touch all of us. Community is everything.

Music Junkie Press: If you could go back to your 14 year old self, what advice would you give to yourself at 14?

Blaise: I would say tell your mother you love her more, everything can change in an instant.

Music Junkie Press:  We had the pleasure of catching you out on tour here in 2012, will you be heading out West here for a tour in the future?

Blaise:  Hopefully, very soon.

Music Junkie Press:  What else does Ionia have planned for 2015?

Blaise: More videos, EPs and giving our music to who ever finds value in it.

Music Junkie Press: With the holidays upon us, is there a particular family tradition that you still do today and look forward to doing?

Blaise: I come from a family of 8. We were very poor growing up and were never much for Hallmark holidays.

Music Junkie Press: What might have been the oddest gift you have ever received?

Blaise: A single hollow point bullet. Or an axe from a girl I loved.

Music Junkie Press: What advice can you give to young musicians who are often pressured to follow a different path for their music which strays from their vision and passion?

Blaise: Do what is in your heart, do not be swayed by trends or fleeting promises of glory. The triumph is with in you. Stay gold.

Music Junkie Press: If we could peak into your iPod, what artist might be the most surprising to find in there?

Blaise:  Taylor swift, or The 1975 (both genuine artists).

Music Junkie Press: Lastly, is there something you would like to share with your fans and our audience?

Blaise: The world, however imperfect, can only change if you take control. The only thing that evil needs to succeed is for good people to stand idly by and do nothing. Do not be despondent. Fight for a better world.
