SPOTLIGHT BAND: The Run Up release new EP. Contributed by Alex Bock

September 30, 2018

Bristol based melodic punk rock band The Run Up just released their new EP ‘Good Friends, Bad Luck’. A few weeks back, they introduced the first single off that album, ‘The Upside Of Being Down’: ‘Good Friends, Bad Luck’ is not only the title of The Run Up’s newest 5-track offering, but also a perfect summary of life in a DIY punk rock band. The new EP from the Bristol-based melodic punks is inspired by making the best out of terrible situations, friendships and being true to yourself. ‘Good Friends, Bad Luck’ has seen the band strengthen their existing relationship with Real Ghost Records, as well as linking ties with German punk rock label, Uncle M. ‘Good Friends, Bad Luck’ will be released worldwide on Special Edition 12” Etched Vinyl and Digital Download on Friday 28th September 2018. “We decided on ‘Good Friends, Bad Luck’ because of the amount of shitty luck we’ve had on the road recently with our van breaking down, missing shows and even getting robbed of our wheels on a duel [Read More]

Armored Saint with Act Of Defiance at the Backstage in Munich

August 16, 2018

(08/07/2018) Last Tuesday I went out for a classy night of Metal music. Armored Saint did us the honor of playing in Munich again. And a special show that was, because they played one of their most popular records ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ in it’s entirety. During the show, the band honored and remember the one man, who played a big part in the success of this record – Dave Prichad, who died in 1990, way before the actual release of the record. Armored Saint were accompanied by another Metal Blade Records band, Act Of Defiance. Act of Defiance was formed in 2014 by ex-Megadeth members guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover. They were joined by Matt Bachand (guitarist for Shadows Fall) on bass and singer Henry Derek (ex-Scar The Martyr). So far they have released two records. While every member of the band is a very experienced musician, they’re still working on forming a fan base, which they surely extended that night. Here are some pictures of a fabulous night: Act of Defiance   [Read More]

Combichrist, Wednesday 13 and Night Club – Everybody Still Hates You-tour 2018. By Alex Bock

August 1, 2018

Munich, July 21st – Technikum – a short review Over the last few years, a summer wouldn’t be a summer, if Combichrist didn’t come down and play shows in Germany. So with 2018 making no exception, Munich welcomed the band once again. They brought two opening acts along. Night Club, a two people act, was the first to enter the stage. While Mark Brooks manages the music DJ-style, Emily Kavanaugh is the front woman/singer. Though the venue wasn’t that full at the beginning of their set, Emily managed to entertain quite well, not being intimidated by the (at first) quiet audience. Their music is quite catchy. Definitely a band worth checking out. Shock rocker Wednesday 13 already assembled a steady fan-base over the years. Their 7th studio record ‘Condolences’ was released in June 2017. Their show was definitely one for the books in terms of appearances. No dull moment there. Finally, Combichrist hit the stage at around 10 pm. At the moment we experience really hot summer days, but believe me, the temperature inside rose [Read More]

New music from The Story So Far

July 19, 2018

The Story So Far just shared a new song called ‘Let It Go’. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2hrXCeXtrY&feature=youtu.be It is taken from their upcoming record ‘Proper Dose’, which will be released September 21st 2018 via Pure Noise Records. In the period of three years, since the release of their third, self-titled album a lot has changed for the band since their routine writing, recording, and touring had caught up with them. “We were so burnt from touring, and playing the same songs over and over again,” says Parker Cannon, the band’s vocalist and lyricist, “We knew we had to take a step back and collect ourselves.” By taking that time to recharge, The Story So Far were able to look at themselves with fresh eyes and newfound creative ambitions, returning with their most cohesive and confident record to date. With the new record They take bold creative leaps, finally making the record that they’d always wanted to. “This one, all the way through, I just think it’s leaps and bounds ahead of anything we’ve ever [Read More]

Avatar with special guests Old Kerry McKee and Hellzapoppin’ Circus Sideshow in Munich at Technikum, April 1st, 2018

April 10, 2018

In January 2018 Swedish metal-band Avatar released their latest record ‘Avatar Country’.  They started their world tour in the US in early 2018 and started off in Europe in March. April 1st they made it back to Munich. Like so many dates on their current tour, the Munich show was sold out. It was the bands’ biggest headline-show in Germany. For fans of theatrics and freakshows, that show was to place to be on Easter Sunday. First act to hit the stage was Old Kerry McKee, probably the quietest act of the night, since he’s a one-man-act. Nevertheless his set was quite entertaining. Second on stage was Hellzapoppin’ Circus Sideshow, a travelling freak-show from Florida. Something you won’t see everyday at a metal-show. Freak-shows actually are hard to find around here. Check out the pics to get an idea of their performance. Avatar had the audiences’ attention from the first minute on. Johannes Eckerström has this ability to lead the people through the show, introducing almost every song with a short story. Avatar have a [Read More]
