Concert review: Devin Townsend Project, Between The Buried And Me and Leprous. Contributed by Alex Bock

February 17, 2017

Munich, Backstage Werk, February 10th 2017 It has been a while, two years to be exact, since we had the pleasure of Devin Townsend playing in our beautiful city. When doors opened at 7pm that night, there was a really long queue waiting down the street to get inside. The show wasn’t entirely sold out, but it couldn’t have been many tickets left and by show start those were gone for sure. The venue was pretty packed from the beginning, which gave both support bands, Leprous and Between The Buried And Me, the chance to play for a bigger crowd. Leprous: Between the Buried and Me: Different from last time Devin Townsend played here, there were no big screens with aliens and other strange things on them in the back. It was mostly reduced to the music itself. The Aliens though were still there that evening in the form of hand puppets, which were sold at the merch table. Moving pictures in the back or not, what counts is the music and there was [Read More]

Concert Review: Devin Townsend Project, Periphery and Shining NOR at Backstage, Munich by Alexandra

March 13, 2015

Contributed by Alexandra Backstage – Werk, Munich, March 10, 2015   First up, it was an amazing, fun and entertaining evening with three awesome acts and never one minute of boredom. The venue was almost sold out, so the room was packed. The Norwegian Band Shining started the set a little earlier than announced at about 7.45 pm. As singer Jorgen Munkeby stated, they started out in 1999 as a Jazz combo and now it’s ‘Jazz-Metal’. Jorgen himself plays guitar and saxophone and boy can he play that one. He’s getting all that noises out of his instrument. It’s stunning. If you’re a fan of the experimental kind of music, you’ll sure like them. I did! Their latest album ‘One One One’ was released 2013. Make sure to check them out. Second act of the evening was ‘Periphery’. They were well known by a good part of the audience and I’m pretty sure they drew many people there that night. Being a quite popular act in the US already, considering the audiences reactions, they could [Read More]

Devin Townsend Project finishes up tour with Animals as Leaders in San Francisco

December 20, 2014

Devin Townsend just finished up a tour with Animals as Leaders and Monuments earlier this week in San Francisco. The tour wrapped up at The Regency Ballroom and you can check out photos of the set from our contributing photographer, Brian Kirksey. It has been quite a busy year for Devin with his highly successful release of his double album,  Z² earlier and a lot of touring. Devin shared about his busy year, ” Hey all, Dev here…closing out the North American tour and a heck of a year.  I released 4 albums this year, if you count the bonus disc of Casualties, went through the crazy Pledge process (still going through it) and it was generally a hectic time.  I feel like I’m at the end of a creative cycle… The Z2 project beat me up in a way I wasn’t expecting, but when all was said and done, I’m very proud of it. It’s an accurate description of a really stressful period, but I didn’t sell out, and I saw it through. Thanks [Read More]
