Radio Black premieres new song featuring Foo Fighter’s Taylor Hawkins on drums

July 2, 2014

Grunge three piece rock band, Radio Black has premiered a new song, “Run Away” featuring Foo Fighter’s Taylor Hawkins on drums.  The song, which was recorded at Dave Grohl‘s studio and home of the famed Sound City mixing console, Studio 606.  “Run Away,” is the first song off a to-be-announced upcoming album, which is recorded and produced by John “Lou” Lousteau, Fireball Ministry front-man and “Sound City” documentary producer Jim Rota, and Brad Smith of Blind Melon and features  appearances from studio players including Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne), Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction), and Mick Murphy (My Ruin, Chevy Metal). Check out the new song here:   It is a great grunge/alternative style song with hints of seventies classic rock, complete with compelling vocals, catchy chorus and melody rich in tones. I look forward to what Radio Black has in store for us.  The powerhouse trio consists of lead singer/guitarist TJ Courtney, drummer Derek Geldhill, founding member of Smile Empty Soul, and bassistDan Kremer, a seasoned touring musician. About recording at Studio 606 with the same Neve 8028 analog mixing console previously used by his childhood musical inspirations including Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters – Radio Black lead singer/guitarist TJ [Read More]

New Single Buzzkill by Twin Berlin channels Nirvana

December 2, 2013

I have a very special treat for you today.  I am listening right now to Buzzkill the new single by Twin Berlin off of their debut full length album, Sleazebrain which is due out February 18th,2014.  It is unbelievably awesome! It reminds me of one of my all time favorite bands, Nirvana. Twin Berlin just exudes raw garage punk style reminiscent of early grunge days. Think garage style mixed with dirty punk and in your face rock! Vocals on the track are mysterious and multi-dimensional. The song has some nice guitar solos and I can only imagine what energy these guys give off when they perform live. You will get hooked on the solid drumming and cool bass lines.  Twin Berlin is Matt Lopez on Vocals and Guitar, Sean O’Neil on bass and James Janocha on drums. Check out their new song, Buzzkill here:   Twin Berlin has worked on an EP with Travis Barker(blink182) an art collaboration with Mikey Welsh (Weezer), recorded with Garth Hudson (The Band), and have been busy performing with bands such as Alice in Chains, [Read More]

Some Fear None, A must see band from Sacramento!

July 25, 2013

Sacramento, CA rockers, Some Fear None have a new CD out that you have to get your hands onto and your ears listening! I first saw this incredible rock band over a  years ago as they opened up for Burn Halo and Smile Empty Soul. We were blown away by the energy these rockers bring to the stage. You have powerful vocals by Nathan Giguiere, intense guitar work by Chuck Carrasco, slamming bass by Gina Salatino and pounding drums by Jason Weisker. You put these four together and you are completely captivated by their unique rock sound that blends everything from metal to alternative, to grunge and more. Their debut CD, “Break Hold and Elevate” is a work of art as you get a fusion of sounds reminiscent of early Deftones, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden as well as other bands like Three Days Grace, Seether, and more. They truly have created their own unique sound and don’t try to put themselves into any particular genre or subgenre of music. They do what they are best at, [Read More]

Violent Soho is back with “Hungry Ghost”

July 24, 2013

Let me refresh your memories about a band that I have loved for several years. I first encountered them as I moved from San Mateo to Santa Rosa (wine country in Northern California). It was a hard move for our family and we felt like we were so far away from everything, San Francisco nightlife, trips to LA, the whole music scene. But then two weeks after moving here, we ended up at the local Best Buy as they had a live concert with a band from Australia that was to perform. A Rock/Alternative/Grunge band!! We were so excited as we waited the two hours and then got to watch the most intense energy driven band perform in this small 10 x 10 area of Best Buy. There might have been maybe a 100 customers and these guys performed at 150%, as if they were performing for a stadium! It was intense. Here is the video of their big hit, “Jesus Stole my Girlfriend” that day and the band is Violent Soho:     Well [Read More]

Kick it into high gear with Katalina Kicks!

April 11, 2013

Shhhh…. I have a confession to make… Many of you have known me for my absolute LOVE and ADORATION of Heavy and Hard Rock and Roll but I must confess…..Long ago, there was a time in my wonderful teens and 20’s where I would take breaks from my Hard Rock life to head to San Francisco and catch my fix of Alternative Rock/Grunge-Punk. Oh how I miss those days, but you know what??? I have found a band that just brings all those great memories back…. No, they are not trying to make a comeback from the late 70’s or reinvent themselves from the late 90’s. The best part is they are a current band and you are going to LOVE them!!! Hailing from West London is the effervescent trio of Katalina Kicks! These three guys pack a punch of energy, attitude and just pure raw fun. You can’t help but move to them and just let the energy flow through your veins. Their music just catapults to the next level of adrenaline which is [Read More]
