Concert Review by Alex Bock: Stick To Your Guns / Stray From The Path / Counterparts / Wolf Down

February 16, 2016

Stick To Your Guns / Stray From The Path / Counterparts / Wolf Down Backstage Werk, Feb. 7th, 2016   What happens when you go to a rock show with four hardcore bands on the bill? Yeah right, it gets really sweaty, esp. for the audience and the security personal. The crowd though needed a while to get into the right mood, but no later than when Stray From The Path entered the stage it was crowd surfing on end. All four bands played solid sets and were fun to watch. Couldn’t really say, why everyone was so tame throughout Wolf Down and Counterparts’ set. Last time I saw Counterparts play with Bless The Fall, Every Time I Die and Architects. They had the crowd going there from the get go. Different audience, different reactions it seems. Wolf Down: Counterparts: Especially SFTP and STYG built a close connection to the audience when talking to them, reassuring the people to fight for their dreams, but also that parents’ concerns aren’t all that wrong with certain decisions [Read More]

Concert Review: Escape The Fate, New Years Day, Fearless Vampire Killers, Like A Storm

February 12, 2016

Concert Review, Munich, Strom, Feb. 4th, 2016 by Alex Bock, https://twitter.com/abphotomjp   Last Thursday we had ‘Weiberfasching’ in Munich. It’s part of the final days of the carnival season, where women are officially on the hunt for men’s ties, to cut them off the necks of their owners. No problem for the show that night, because fortunalety I was attending a Rock show, not an office party nor a carnival ball. When I saw the concert announcement a while ago and the support bands that where added over time, I thought, wow, what an event. Four awesome band in one night. The club they played, oftentimes starts shows at 9.30 pm, which is pretty late, considering they have to be over by midnight for youth protection reasons. Fortunately, the promoter also thought that this might end up in a race against time, so they changed doors and show-start time to 8.30 pm, which kinda worked out fine. Like A Storm hit the stage at around 8.40 pm, so a decent amount of people was already inside. [Read More]

Periphery, Veil of Maya and Good Tiger – Munich. Concert Review by Alex Bock

December 14, 2015

Concert Review Periphery, Veil Of Maya and Good Tiger Munich, Strom, December 8th, 2015   On short notice the show was delayed from the Backstage (my fave venue) to the Strom (to be honest one of my least favorite ones, because it’s in the heart of the city, they have late show starts – 9.30 pm – and the shows usually have to end at 12 pm latest). It’s a pretty small venue, which was however really packed that night. The first opening act were Good Tiger. They are what’s usually called a super group consisting of well known musicians. The band features ex-Tesseract vocalist Elliot Coleman, ex-The Safety Fire guitarists Derya Nagle and Joaquin Ardiles, ex-The Faceless drummer Alex Rüdinger and bassist Morgan Sinclair, who was on tour with Architects as a guitarist. In summer this year they started an IndieGoGo campaign to help finance their debut record ‘A Head Full Of Moonlight’, which was released in early November 2015. They had the goal for the campaign set for 16.000 $ and raised that in about 24 hours. [Read More]

W.A.S.P. w. Lucky Bastardz and Rebellious Spirit in Munich. Review by Alex Bock

November 7, 2015

Concert Review W.A.S.P. w. Lucky Bastardz and Rebellious Spirit, Munich, Theaterfabrik, October 29, 2015   What can you expect, when a band like W.A.S.P. announces a show? I can tell you…. A solid rock show in a packed house with a crowd that rocks hard throughout the whole show. After almost six years W.A.S.P. released their latest record ‘Golgotha’ on October 2nd. 33 years in the business now, they lost nothing of their grip live, although they didn’t use fake blood or any other spooky props at their show, like they’re kind of famous for. They started the show with ‘On Your Knees’ from their 1984 debut album ‘W.A.S.P.’ Four songs on the set-list were actually from that album, the record that holds many of their hit songs like f.e. ‘L.O.V.E. Machine’. They also played ‘Golgotha’, ‘The Last Runaway’ and the ballad ‘Miss you’ from their recent release. Anyway, old or new, the crowd seems to have known every word of every song. There were only two short breaks during the show. They finished their [Read More]
