Wiesbaden, Schlachthof, May 23rd, 2016

This time I made a bit of a longer trip to cover a show for you and I chose the Schlachthof in Wiesbaden. The venue was recently rebuilt. It reopened at the end of 2015. Everything is still shiny and new and it’s a nice venue of the small and cozy kind.

Just two months after the release of their recent record ‘Dark Matter’ The Word Alive went out on European Tour that included, besides a few German dates, also Slam Dunk Festival dates in the UK. By the time you read this, the tour is over and they’re back in the US relaxing and probably rehearsing for the upcoming Warped Tour Cycle, which the band will be on again.

But back to the Wiesbaden show.

Telle and Dani took their time to sit down with us and talk about the tour, the record, Warped Tour and much more. Check the interview out here:

Show started around 7 pm. The Word Alive had three support bands, two of them from Germany (Coyotes and Annisokay) and Polar from the UK. Throughout the evening some of them struggled with the sound, but everyone had a great connection with the crowd, so no one seems to have been offended by the sometimes subpar sound and lighting.

The Word Alive played a 60 minutes set with many of the new songs, starting out with the first song on ‘Dark Matter’, ‘Dreamer’. The set list was awesome. Aside from seven new songs they also played ‘Lighthouse’, ‘2012’, ‘Play The Victim’ and to close the night ‘Life Cycles’. Regardless of older or new songs, they were received by the crowd equally well. They sang along to ‘Made This Way’ with almost as much passion as ‘Life Cycles’.

Considering the pictures I saw of shows from days before the one I’ve been to, the crowd was clearly enthusiastic, but at times a bit settled. Crowd-surfing for example was a seldom thing that night. It’s nothing I’d deem negative, German audiences tend to be quiet oftentimes, it’s just something I observed.

Nevertheless, The Word Alive delivered an awesome set. Everything was on spot. Seeing them perform and interact with each other on stage, gave the clear impression, that they really love what they’re doing.

Note to the light guy: Sometimes a bit more light would’ve been nice, because some spots on the stage were in complete darkness.

Check out the pictures of that night, that hopefully give you an impression of an amazing show:

The Word Alive will be back in Europe in August for some festival dates. So if you didn’t catch them this time or you’ll (hopefully) want to watch them live again, just check on the bands social media for upcoming tour dates and events.
