Stuck In Your Radio: The Story of the King of the Come-Back Kids by Meryl DeWitt

August 25, 2014

We’ve all had that one friend that was in a dead-end garage band in high school. Stuck In Your Radio‘s story might start out the same as those guys, but it doesn’t end at Senior year. Lead singer Eddie Cardona, or as the lovable goof is more likely known as, Sly Fox has lead a life influenced and driven by music. Raised primarily in Puerto Rico, he started off not knowing English. That was, until listening to Blink 182 influenced him to pick up the langue. After moving to the states, he continued to encompass music in his life. After performing in a high school talent show, he and a few friends began a band called All Or Nothing. Eventually All Or Nothing transformed into Stuck In Your Radio, but like many high school bands, the members began taking their own paths and the band eventually drifted apart. After high school, Sly made a profession out of content creating for YouTube. His channel grew immensely and he decided to use his newfound following to revive [Read More]

Wayne Static, founding member of Static-X has announced a co-headlining tour with Powerman5000. The tour will also include support by American Head Charge on select dates. One thing is for sure, this tour is bursting with intensity and energy and will definitely be one not to miss. It kicks off on November 6th in Waterloo, IA and will run through to November 30th in McCallem, TX. Static says about the tour, 2014 has been an awesome year! We just finished up the 15th anniversary Wisconsin Death Trip tour. I’ve got the best band behind me that I’ve ever had, and I am very excited to round out the year with a co-headline tour with Powerman 5000. It’s another 15th anniversary tour! It’s a testament to both bands that we are both still going strong and the timing is perfect for us to tour together again. I am equally excited to share the stage with American Head Charge again. I believe it was 2005 when we toured together last. This is a great line up and [Read More]

Music Over Matter Tour Review by Meryl DeWitt

August 24, 2014

In the past few years, it’s become apparent screamo is finally making a mark in the music industry. Since it first surfaced in the ’80s, it’s been working hard to get a leg up on the competition. The genre’s recent breakthrough is credited to bands like Bring Me the Horizon and Of Mice & Men, who paved the rough road for many bands to come, but it’s about time some new bands made their way into the scene. On the Music Over Matter Tour, I was able to meet and watch some of these very bands. I caught up with In Light of Us once again, a local Minneapolis band whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few times now. Though they’re still in the baby stages, they’re a very talented band with a bright future. In Light of Us has yet to let go of the passion that many bands have lost. They show this in their energetic music and set! It’s a show definitely worth the while. My hopes are [Read More]

Juliette Ashby at the Hotel Café. The beginning of a love affair with America by Patrick O’Heffernan

August 24, 2014

Hollywood. Patrick O’Heffernan. Juliette Ashby was in constant motion. Her hands, her arms, her body all swayed and circled and pointed and touched as she sang, hypnotizing us, drawing us in, capturing us in the heart inside her bare chest.  Tall, beautiful and confident, yet down-to-earth, Ashby took the stage Friday night at the Hotel Café in Hollywood and looked over the packed room with a smile of satisfaction and greeting.  Statuesque in skin tight black toreador pants and a lime green silk sleeveless blouse open down to her silver belt buckle, seemingly without make up, she radiated not so much sensuality as openness and honesty.  The songs she gave us were exactly that – open and honest, and they proved beyond a doubt that she is one of the most talented entertainers on either side of the Atlantic. Ashby is known as a neo-soul, R&B singer-songwriter, but she is so much more. With a high-pitched, almost Jamaican voice  that ranges from reggae to soul and R&B, she is simply in a universe by herself. [Read More]

Eleanor Goldfield of Rooftop Revolutionaries: hard rock for a reason by Patrick O’Heffernan

August 22, 2014

Patrick O’Heffernan, Los Angeles. What do you do if you have a classically trained operatic voice, the beauty and the bearing of a top model and the visionary soul of an artist and a poet? You start a hard rock band with screaming guitars, pounding drums and in-your-face-political lyrics. That’s what our next guest did, and the rest is history. Eleanor Goldfield wants to change the world with art and music. So she co-founded Rooftop Revolutionaries, a hard rock/alternative metal band that has a very direct  message:  Do Something. Using socially conscious lyrics, haunting melodies, driving guitars and hammering drums to back her soaring and plunging voice, Eleanor entertains, educates and motivates. And it works.  People listen and act, whether it is at an Occupy event, a march or a protest, Eleanor’s voice and Rooftop Revolutionaries music is a soundtrack for action. Eleanor also finds time to blog, host a radio show and produce music/art events.  She calls herself a “creative activist”; I call her a multi-platform cultural provocateur.  Eleanor sat down for an interview [Read More]

Check out our interview with Framing Hanley frontman, Nixon

August 22, 2014

There was so many great releases this year and one of our faves was the new album by Framing Hanley, The Sum of Who We Are,on their new label Imagen Records. This is Framing Hanley‘s third CD and the first in 4 years. Frontman Nixon explains, “There was definitely a dark period during the 2 years we spent recording this. That’s not to say this album is some dark and brooding album. There are definitely some light-hearted tunes on here as well; some that are fun. This album is the past 2 years of our lives and is every part of our beings…that’s what the title means. This album really is the sum of who we are. The thing that I love most is, I think when the listener puts on those headphones, or puts the cd in the car, he or she is gonna listen and come to find out, hey, me and this guy have got some things in common!” The album is the bands boldest artistic statement to date capturing the essence of innocence and hope, light and darkness, [Read More]

Check out the new video for Sharks by metalcore band, Convictions and pick up a free download!

August 22, 2014

Ohio based metalcore band, Convictions have released a video for their fierce hardcore metal song, Sharks. It was produced by Joey Sturgis and the video was directed and edited by David Borges.Check out the video here: Recording ‘SHARKS’ was quite the experience for us. Everything up to the final tracking was very stressful. We have all been through so much in our personal lives this past year, and we really wanted to let it all out in the music. We want people to be able to relate this song, and what we go through. We try to be as honest as possible with everything we do because we believe that is how music should be. There are kids out there going through real issues that aren’t being addressed in much modern music. We wanted to talk about the stuff everyone is afraid to talk about. Musically, we demoed it out countless times before going into the studio. But I don’t think it would have sounded as good if we weren’t so stressed out. You can [Read More]
