Here we are at number 6 of our 12 Days of Vocalists and it has included lots of well known artists; Tom Keifer, Danny Worsnop, Gerard Way just to name a few. For Day 6, I would like to place the spotlight on an amazing up and coming vocalist, Michael Lars Schwartz of Awoken Shadows. Michael and his band have truly made a solid impression on us here at Music Junkie Press this year. For only being introduced to them back in January, they have proven to be one of the hardest working and determined bands that we covered in 2014. Michael’s vocals are powerful and grab your attention. Their style can be described as theatrical metal, and metalcore but you can tell that Michael would be well suited to tackle a variety of styles and is not limited in his capabilities. His rawness and edgy vocals reminds me of early Marilyn Manson.
We must bring attention to his incredible band, David Lopez on guitar and Anthony Arroyo on drums. These three have had quite a year with touring, debut album release, lineup changes and such, but they finished of the year with an incredible performance at Ace of Spades opening up for The Birthday Massacre & New Years Day. They might have been a couple members down but you would not have known it, with the solid set they delivered. We really look forward to what is next for them in 2015! Check out some photos from their Ace of Spades show:
If you don’t already have it, make sure to pick up their debut album, Till Death Do Us Part. Their debut album has garnered a lot of high praises and captured everyone’s attention. For a debut album, they are coming out of the gate running and have delivered a complete musical gem. After first listen, you may think you are listening to a well established band of many years since the songs are well written, fluidly executed and blends so well the style of theatrical metalcore and post hardcore rock.
They have seamlessly created songs that create depth with layers, rich in cinematic tones and bring to life their theatrical style. It is like the gifted offspring of Vampires Everywhere, Avenged Sevenfold and early Motionless in White with a side of Danny Worsnop growls/screams. There is the right mixture of heaviness amid the melodic chorus’ that creates their own unique sound that is truly infectious. You will find yourself singing the chorus or tapping to the beats long after listening and looking forward to putting it on replay again.
Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news.
