Tuesdays Travels pick of the week is The Sounds from Sweden

November 12, 2013

This week our Tuesdays Travels pick takes us to Malmo, Sweden. Sweden; the home of IKEA, ABBA and Absolut Vodka. Now we have one more thing to thank Sweden for, the incredible new wave infused rock by The Sounds.  Their music is described as indie rock/new wave but I think they can’t be categorized since they have a sound all on their own. The female fronted vocalist, Maja Ivarsson reminds me of a mix of Terri Nunn and Debbie Harry.  Their songs are energetic and fun and will have you moving and enjoying life within seconds of listening. The Sounds is Maja Ivarsson on Vocals, Felix Rodriguez on Guitars/Vocals, Johan Bengtsson on Bass, Jesper Anderberg on Keys/Guitar/Vocals and Fredrik Blond on Drums. The Sounds recently released their album, “Weekend” on October 29th, 2013 and it is spectacular. They have described this album as a bit of a rebirth of the band.  Jesper Anderberg, keyboardist/guitarist explains, “Weekend is more of a back to basics album, I was primarily looking for a groove when I started writing this album – a groove [Read More]

Hillbilly Herald returns to San Francisco and takes over The Regency Ballroom

November 12, 2013

One of my favorite bands, Hillbilly Herald returned to San Francisco last Friday night to open up for Steel Panther. It was a last minute show announced by Hillbilly Herald and we were so glad to  make it down there and not miss these balls to the wall rock-n-rollers! Hillbilly Herald truly just had the crowd in it’s hands as they came out and played many of my favorites, Bad Boy Bruiser, Gold Digga, their cover of TNT, Greedy, Shame on Me and Rock n Roll is All I Wanna Do. Their energy was nonstop and their music is so damn fun, it is like old school rock that you LOVE! We will be bringing you an interview with Jimmy Heral in the next couple weeks. For now, check out this tribute video by Rockin Ryan which includes footage and photos from their San Francisco show.   If you don’t have it already (SHAME ON YOU!!!) head over to Itunes or Amazon and download their latest album, Sunday’s Best. Also check out their video for [Read More]

The Yellow Dogs tragic shooting/suicide by ex bandmate

November 11, 2013

Music for me always represents a way to deal with emotions ranging from hate, anger to love and bliss. I think with  music, my hope is we all can come together and can eradicate the hate and violence that is in this world today. It is sad to hear about the tragic fatal shooting of three band members of The Yellow Dogs from Iran. This indie punk/rock band relocated from Iran and settled into Brooklyn, seeking more musical freedom and they had been quite successful at getting their high energy music out there. Recently, one of the band members who was kicked out of the band, returned to their apartment at 318 Maujer St, Brookly, NY and fatally shot the three remaining band members.Another member has been shot but is in stable condition in the hospital. Names have not been released of the gunman or the victims. The band members were reportedly shot and the shooter was found on the roof with a self inflicted gun shot to the head, with a rifle by his [Read More]
