Carrie Underwood joins Thousand Foot Krutch for song at Winter Jam in Tulsa, OK

March 11, 2014

I love it when the unexpected happens and music styles and genres are not a black and white issue. It used to be that if you were into Country or Rap, it was expected that you listen to that style and only that style of music on and off the stage.  I love it when musicians just love music regardless of what genre or style it gets boxed in. Like how about seeing soft rock/pop artist Matt Nathanson on his favorite show That Metal Show, or when I ask Chris Jericho of Fozzy what is the artist I would find most surprised at finding on his Ipod and he answers “Katy Perry, I love Katy Perry”. Well it happened again at Winter Jam in Tulsa, OK. Modern rockers Thousand Foot Krutch were playing to a nearly sold out crowd at the BOK center and music superstar Carrie Underwood joined them to sing their song, “Let The Sparks Fly.”  “Carrie Underwood ladies and gentleman,” shouts TFK frontman Trevor McNevan from stage as the crowd erupts in excitement [Read More]

One Less Reason delivers emotionally stirring hard rock that will have you hooked

March 11, 2014

So many times when you listen to heavy or hard rock your focus is on the thundering drums or powerful guitars not the lyrics. One Less Reason has turned that around by creating hard rock complete with the fierce guitars, powerful vocals but have added amazing emotionally stirring lyrics. I will tell you that I was having a very, very bad day dealing with family drama (quite similar to the Kerri Kasem situation with her father) and I needed a release or escape from it all.  I usually have two routes I go, I listen to something loud and heavy to release or I listen to lyrically stirring music to provide comfort and calm. I turned to One Less Reason and it was the perfect fit for my mood.Their songs blend these two styles and I couldn’t be more happy with the results.  The band perfectly describes their music, “One Less Reason songs are more lyrically heavy than musically heavy, and there’s always a message. It’s all based around those four letter words – love, [Read More]

Our Tuesdays Travels Pick of the Week Band is DNR from Italy. I am so excited to tell you about this great band, DNR who are ready to break the norm with their new fresh take on rock and roll infused with alternative and electro. DNR started as a project from Italy by the bassist Kira who had a dream, “To fuse the Asian and Western Music as well as Visual styles into one.” Although there might have been a couple line-up changes over the years, one thing rings true, the dream is still very well alive and their new sound will reel you in and captivate you. DNR is AxiA on Vocals, Kira on Bass, Yu (founder of German band Cinema Bizzare) on Guitar and Ash on Drums. Together, these four have fused their individual styles and crafted their own unique sound.  They have recently released their new music video for their single, Another World Falls Down and check it out here:   The new track is currently available on ITunes and is definitely one [Read More]

Hana Kim: soaring lyrics and Saving Innocents. By Patrick O’Heffernan

March 10, 2014

Hana Kim: soaring lyrics and Saving Innocents. by Patrick O’Heffernan  Host, Music FridayLive! Usually as the night progresses on Sundays at a showcase venue, the audience egresses – the later you sing, the fewer people you sing to.  The opposite was true for Hana Kim this past Sunday at the Hotel Café in Hollywood.  As she and her band began setting up a little before 10 pm, the double doors in the back started swinging as fans poured in.  The small crowd with  some empty tables became a full room of buzzing, talking, camera-flashing fans there to see one of their stars. And Hana did not disappoint.  She had her full band – Ed Maxwell on bass, Adam Zimmon on lead guitar and Matt Mayhall on the drums – backing up her piano and keyboard and luxurious voice.  Together they transported the room to a concert hall filled with music and heart. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that Sunday night was the best live concert I have heard Hana Kim deliver. Perched on [Read More]
