Retconstruct treat the DNA Lounge to a stellar symphonic metal set

July 2, 2014

Last night we were at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco to cover the return of My Life With Thrill Kill Kult and we were treated to a very impressive opener. Rectonstruct from San Jose were on board to deliver a stellar symphonic metal that truly caught our eye. This female fronted is fairly new, as they started only in 2012. They have created a fresh new sound for metal complete with symphonic tones, dark melodies,  hints of goth, both edgy and dramatic. You are drawn in by the captivating vocals of Jill Valdes as she takes you on a mysterious journey through the songs. Retconstruct is: Guy Valdes – Producer and Lead Guitarist Jill Valdes – Lyrics, Vocals and Art Kyle Valdes – Drums and Percussion Miriyam NachtWulfe – Bass Guitar Austin Terry – Rhythm Guitar Their current album, Denizens of the Depth was released this year and is available through Pavement Records here. Pick it up and make sure to visit their social media sites. I will leave you with an album preview by [Read More]

The Word Alive is definitely a highlight of Warped Tour 2014 and not to be missed!

July 2, 2014

Vans Warped Tour has been going strong and delivering an array of awesome music for the past twenty years. Summer wouldn’t be summer without enjoying Warped Tour.  We recently covered two of the California dates and have been enjoying so many of the bad ass bands.  One of our Warped Tour highlights is The Word Alive. The Word Alive deliver a set that is fueled with energy from start to finish. Their modern heavy music has gained them a strong and dedicated fan base. When you catch their set, you will know what I am talking about. You can’t help but be mesmerized by their intensity and musicianship. They are one set you don’t want to miss.  We had the chance to chat briefly with vocalist Telle Smith before he had to run off and sing guest vocals with Breath Carolina. Check out the interview here and find out what gives him energy before he plays his sets: The Word Alive will be performing on all the Warped Tour dates and make sure to check [Read More]

Upon a Burning Body release new song, Red Razor Wrists and catch them on Mayhem Fest!

July 2, 2014

So after all the hysteria over the publicity post for Upon A Burning Body from earlier today, they have released a bad ass new track! As I mentioned earlier in my post, I hope people just get over it and move forward. Publicity stunts have been around for ages and will continue to be around. It is a form of art and is used in a dramatic effect to create an element of mystery, anticipation and so much more. Sadly, we now live in hyper-sensitive and overly magnified world in which within minutes news travels as is no longer considered a “hype” or “build-up”.  I have always loved the music of Upon a Burning Body and will continue to. So with that said, check out their fierce new track: I look forward to catching them this weekend as they head out on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Check the dates below and get yourself to a show! Band Members: Danny – Vocals CJ- Guitar Ruben- Bass Sal- Guitar Make sure to visit their social [Read More]

Sumerian releases statement on Upon a Burning Body publicity stunt

July 2, 2014

Here is the statement that just posted on Sumerian FaceBook Page about the report of Danny Leal Missing: I woke up to a ton of missed calls and just saw all this stuff about Danny Leal of UABB posing as that he’s been abducted or kidnapped. My phone hasn’t stopped ringing since. As a child, we all learn the story “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” and it sticks within our consciousness for a reason. I do not condone this type of publicity stunt. This was done behind my back and I am not OK with it. In my eyes, there’s never a time to use the possibility of real-life abduction, injury or murder of someone you care about to promote anything, especially an album. If you need to resort to that, then you have lost the plot. We as a society should have evolved past that way of thinking by now and especially within the rock/metal community, given all the tragedy that has happened in our world over the past few years. There are some [Read More]

Mary Scholz’s The Girl You Thought You Knew: a romance propelled by angelic voice and heart piercing lyrics.

July 2, 2014

To see Mary Scholz live in concert is to fall in love.  It is not just the flashing dark eyes or the crown of black ringlets or the confident, welcoming body language at the microphone.  It is the voice and the lyrics – the music that flows from the stage and puts its soft hands on your cheeks, kisses your forehead, your ears, your mouth and becomes your lover.  You are taken;  you know this woman and her music and you want to spend the rest of your life listening to her. Her new album, The Girl You Thought You Knew has the same effect. It’s a star-filled Milky Way of music that tightens your stomach, speeds your pulse and captures your heart.  The fifteen songs on this album are each crafted and polished and presented as a love offering in a carefully sequenced order that defines her heart and pierces yours.  This is not an album to play on shuffle;  it s a romance  ready to ripen. Beginning with “A Mournful Noise”, the [Read More]

I look forward to what Radio Black has in store for us.  The powerhouse trio consists of lead singer/guitarist TJ Courtney, drummer Derek Geldhill, founding member of Smile Empty Soul, and bassistDan Kremer, a seasoned touring musician.
