Interview with multi-instrumentalist Ethan Teel from The Owl-Eyes

October 22, 2014

Earlier this week, when I visited my 81 year old mother whom is recuperating from an infection in a skilled nursing facility, I was left to hear the complaining from the seniors about the younger generation, and exclamations of “What is the world coming to? Young men and women are not as passionate as they used to be, etc “. I simply do not agree since it seems that the spotlight is often on those that are not creating or passionate about their arts or even life in general. I know a young man who is amazingly talented and passionate in all that he does, that I would like to place in the spotlight and let the world enjoy his great gift of music and that young man is Ethan Teel. The solo project of Ethan is The Owl-Eyes and earlier this year he released his debut EP, Wild Child. Ethan displays his great affection for various genres of music as he experiments with everything from pop, jazz, heavy metal, alternative, metalcore, hip-hop, punk, and so [Read More]

The Church announce date for their 25th studio album and release new video

October 20, 2014

One of my favorite bands of my youth and then became the soundtrack of my life is The Church. The Church have announced the release date of what will become their 25th studio album release. The album, Further/Deeper, will be released in North America on February 3rd 2015.  2015 also marks the 35th anniversary of the band. 35 years of great music amid lineup changes, music formats and so much more. “The magic started on day one,” says singer/bass player Steve Kilbey. “Someone strummed a chord or struck a drum or plucked a note and we were off. We wrote and recorded like demons and it was inspiring to feel every member using all his resources in the service of this record.” In addition to working on a tour in support of the new album, they have released a video for their song, Pride Before a Fall which is off the new album. Check it out here: The song features that signature sound of The Church that I have loved and missed so much. I am really excited [Read More]

Have Mercy premiere new song, Two Years off their upcoming album

October 20, 2014

Have Mercy have premiered the third single off their upcoming album, A Place of Our Own which is set to release on October 27th through Hopeless Records.  The singer Brian Swindle stated, ““Two Years” really set the tone for the record. I wrote the lyrics on my phone the day that my relationship with my ex ended. I was hanging with a friend the night of and he had a riff he wanted to mess around with,” he said.He continued, “Somehow the melody I had when I wrote the lyrics and the riff he had fit perfectly. Him and I stayed up until 6am writing “Two Years”. The song is just kind of a conversation with myself about the things that were going on in my head. We wrote a few songs for the record before this song but once it was written we knew how we wanted to finish the album and what feel we wanted to give.” Check out the song here: Have Mercy is Brian Swindle – Vocals/Guitar Nick Woolford – Bass/Vocals Todd Wallace  – Drums Andrew Johnson – [Read More]
