Devin Townsend Project finishes up tour with Animals as Leaders in San Francisco

Devin Townsend just finished up a tour with Animals as Leaders and Monuments earlier this week in San Francisco. The tour wrapped up at The Regency Ballroom and you can check out photos of the set from our contributing photographer, Brian Kirksey. It has been quite a busy year for Devin with his highly successful release of his double album, Z² earlier and a lot of touring. Devin shared about his busy year, ” Hey all, Dev here…closing out the North American tour and a heck of a year. I released 4 albums this year, if you count the bonus disc of Casualties, went through the crazy Pledge process (still going through it) and it was generally a hectic time. I feel like I’m at the end of a creative cycle… The Z2 project beat me up in a way I wasn’t expecting, but when all was said and done, I’m very proud of it. Day 6 of 12 Days of Vocalists goes to Michael Lars Schwartz

Here we are at number 6 of our 12 Days of Vocalists and it has included lots of well known artists; Tom Keifer, Danny Worsnop, Gerard Way just to name a few. For Day 6, I would like to place the spotlight on an amazing up and coming vocalist, Michael Lars Schwartz of Awoken Shadows. Michael and his band have truly made a solid impression on us here at Music Junkie Press this year. For only being introduced to them back in January, they have proven to be one of the hardest working and determined bands that we covered in 2014. Michael’s vocals are powerful and grab your attention. Their style can be described as theatrical metal, and metalcore but you can tell that Michael would be well suited to tackle a variety of styles and is not limited in his capabilities. Concert Review of The Knitts at The Mint in Los Angeles (12/11)

Hailing from an unmarked shipping container in a gritty industrial area of Van Nuys, The Knitts create a unique blend of garage, post-punk and anglo punk. The five-piece band recently captivated audiences last week with a short set of all-new material at The Mint in LA, an intimate, historic venue known for hosting both famous and up-and-coming artists. The opening track, “Hold Steady Pretty Lady,” established the group’s tone of loud, quick percussion and sharp vocals. Each song thereafter was just as punchy and spirited, carrying elements of The Clash and Joy Division. The band’s dynamic presence amazed the audience, especially as lead vocalist Justin Volkens joined on drums in anti-prom anthem “She Likes The Idea of Gold.” This dreamy track was considerably slower tempo than the rest of the set, but still maintained the group’s maverick personality. While The Knitts’ energy is reminiscent of a not-so-sweet-sixteen party, they have a surprisingly long history. The group traces its roots to the last years of Hollywood’s Knitting Factory. His voice was not only the featured vocalist on the playlist of my life in the 80’s and 90’s but is back again in the spotlight.
