Time Travel by LA transplant Jasmine Jordan. timeless R&B and pop by Patrick Heffernan

February 21, 2015

Jasmine Jordan’s Time Travel  is a thing of beauty,  past,  present and future. Patrick O’Heffernan   Jasmine Jordan does something with R&B and pop that is quite unusual.  There is the  familiar tempo and feel of  R&B, but there is also a longing, a maturity, a personal  connection and a heart to heart conversation that is rare to find and hard to accomplish.  Jordan accomplishes it with what appears to be little effort.  When you listen to her EP, Time Travel,  you feel you know her with the kind of knowledge that you get from listening to a person talk while you read their face and body language.   Time Travel is her first EP, but is moves with the sophistication of a much more experienced artist.   She knows exactly how to frame her songwriting and her smooth, precise voice so that, even coming through speakers or earbuds, she creates a relationship with her listeners.  The result is a thing of beauty that travels through past, present and future. Time Travel is a spare four [Read More]

Check out a live video performance by Cold Lungs of their upcoming new EP New Pictures/Old Frames

February 21, 2015

On the southside of Edmonton in the dead of winter, Cold Lungs set out to gather friends from the local hardcore scene to record their first live video. It was shot entirely live off the floor in the practice space for Cold Lungs and a few other local bands. Chad Steeves Photography, Firth Photography, and a couple of GoPro’s captured the madness that ensued. The entire EP New Pictures//Old Frames was played front to back (along with 2 older songs) by 3 frenzied young men. This video represents two parts: one dim and the other grim, the black and white filming gives viewers a sense of the atmosphere and the loud abrasive music showcases the aggression of the Edmonton Hardcore scene. Justin (Bass and Vocals) comments: “This video couldn’t have happened without the help of these insanely talented people we’re lucky to call our friends.. Alley Kat brewery were also kind enough to give us a keg of beer, and a ton of people were kind enough to drink said beer and trash our basement. [Read More]

The Vantage premiere infectious new song, Place In The Water

February 19, 2015

Austin based indie pop duo The Vantage may have just released what has become my new Go To song. Their new song, Place In The Water is one of those tracks that is like that moment in Ratatouille where the food critic takes one bite of the meal made by the rat, and he is instantly taken back to a specific memory in time. That hasn’t happened in a while for me, and it was so awesome to have that feeling when I listened to their new song today. It literally brought me back to my twenty something years in the 90’s and we would head to a cool club in San Francisco, the Paradise Lounge. It had four separate stages in the venue that would feature live music from electronic, pop, alternative, punk and modern rock. It was a haven of happiness for many of us. The music would infuse us with hopes and dreams and capture our innocence with fun playful alternative pop tracks. That is what this song brings to me. Check it [Read More]

Concert Review: In This Moment and Fearless Vampire Killers in Munich, Feb. 17th. contributed by Alexandra

February 19, 2015

Contributed by Alexandra  Let me tell you: It was in more than one way an outstanding experience…. The club the show went down yesterday is a very small club in the heart of Munich. It was a sold out show and people already lined up around the corner. Doors were announced for 8.30 pm to open. Show start is usually 9.30 pm. Like most nights it was about -5 Celsius (about 23 Fahrenheit) and the air was slightly wet and felt therefore colder. So everyone was hoping for doors to open soon, but…..it took them over one hour to actually open that door. It was about 9.35 pm, when they actually let people in. It took until approx. 10 until all people were inside and at about 10.15 pm Fearless Vampire Killers entered the stage and played… 3 songs. The shortest set I’ve ever seen. Actually there would’ve been a third band on the bill, Starset, but as it turned out, they didn’t play at all. Unfortunately there’s not too much I could tell you [Read More]
