Community comes together to help Valley Fire Victims with a Benefit Concert

September 15, 2015

In the past week I have had to write about two fires, first the iconic Full Throttle Saloon burned down and then about the limo that was carrying band members of Jake E Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel.  Here I am once again writing about another fire and this one has hit very close to home. On Saturday, September 12th, we noticed the clouds to the East of us had grown dark and filled with smoke. Shortly after we learned of a fire on Cobb Mountain in Lake County and it was rapidly growing at an aggressive rate. It left people with little time to gather their belongings as they had to evacuate their homes. We spent the entire night looking for updates and watching the orange sky in our backyard, worrying about those in the path of the fire. Sunday, we learned of the devastation that the fire had ensued as it had grown to 10,000 acres, then 25,000 acres, then to an astonishing 50,000 acres and zero containment. The fire at last check is [Read More]

Jackie Bristow Shot of Gold:  a strong woman leans forward. By Patrick O’Heffernan

September 15, 2015

(Los Angeles) I love to see Jackie Bristow perform live and was reminded of why when I recently saw her do a short set at the Piano Bar in Hollywood.  An imposing, six foot tall redhead with a mile-wide smile and a New Zealand accent, she combines the essence of both feminine and strength. The six songs she belted and crooned from the stage  brought those two qualities together in a captivating musical synergy melding beautiful love and exquisite pain with hooks that stick around like a true friend. Her powerhouse song “Freedom” brought the house down as it always does. So I was delighted when she handed me a freshly minted demo copy of her new album,  Shot of Gold.   Bristow doubles down on her feminine strength in  Shot of Gold. Every song leans forward, every song has a round, flowing-knowing, seductive woman wisdom, propelled by the restless moving ahead that is Bristow. And like its creator, Shot of Gold is the essence of feminine and strength, some of it written at a [Read More]

The album is a pure musical gem that highlights their signature sound and takes you on rock and roll adventure. It is their 22nd studio album and marks their 40th anniversary. The Darlings release new music video for Little Teenage Thing

September 15, 2015

Rockers out of Redondo Beach, The Darlings have released their new music video for their track, Little Teenage Thing. The song is from their latest record “Made of Phantoms” which is available now on iTunes. The video was directed by Buddy Darling and was shot, edited, and composited by Steve Guerrero of Burning Rose Studios. Buddy Darling comments on the video, “We knew after Little Teenage Thing was recorded that we had something new and different. The song creeps and stomps along with sort of a seductive atmosphere.. Something to make girls dance. I knew I wanted the video to be in the bayou, dark and swampy with whacky dancing. Kinda like the way Christopher Walken dances in that fat boy slim video from way back… Also with an acid trip build up, in the end we are peeking in the northern lights. “ Check out the video here: The Darlings have succeeded at bringing an infectious new sound that is dipped in vintage influences that will have you begging for more. They also have a great stage [Read More]

Interview with Matthew, Alison Irehata, and Brian Steadman of Halo Circus. By Patrick O’Heffernan

September 12, 2015

When I first saw Halo Circus at a club in LA, my head swiveled around as I said who-is-that-band?  I had not heard anything like it before, and the visual spectacle was also impressive.  Precise, melodic, deeply emotional rock delivered by pros and fronted by a pink-haired Latina banshee with the voice of an opera singer and the eyes of a seductive wise woman.  I know now why  people say lightning struck when singer Allison Iraheta (“American Idol” Season 8 finalist) joined with producer and bassist / keyboardist Matthew Hager of Duran Duran.  This band is extraordinary, and I see a lot of bands so that is not idle talk. And neither was the talk when I had the chance to kick back with Matthew and Brian and Allison. Patrick.  You have an album in the works now , your debut album.  what can you tell us about it. and why have you waited so long? Matthew.  That is very good question.  We have been doing this for a few years now and our fans ask the [Read More]

Ghost Town vocalist Kevin Ghost comments, “no one ever teaches you about anxiety and how difficult it is for almost everyone that I know to stand up and be themselves. It’s probably a larger issue than drugs or ADHD.  It takes effort and it takes courage to get out of bed in the morning, let alone be an individual. This record is a celebration of those people that have figured out a way to do [Read More]
