Music Friday Live

#GirlsRockLA: Madame Ur, Love La Femme and having fun making history.

June 12, 2016

I have often said in my essays and on my radio shows that Los Angeles is the music capital of the world.  That statement draws  denials from Nashville, New York and London –understandably so.  But it  cannot be denied that something historic is happening in the south and east quadrants of the City of Angel, in Boyle Heights, EastLos, El Sereno, Compton, the Arts District and even places like Mt. Washington, Silverlake and Echo Park. There, the  long-resident Latino music scene is colluding with rock and rap and jazz while it adds a constant stream of fresh talent from Mexico, Columbia, Guatemala, El Salvador and the Caribbean,  all drawn to the enervating proliferation of bands, producers, studios, venues , managers and publications dedicated to the emerging new genre, American Latino Music – or ALM.   That collision was on full display Friday night upstairs at Los Globos in the Silverlake District as the production partnership The Living Sessions and Sunset Eclectico produced  the third #GirlsRockLA event with a stellar lineup of local and international [Read More]

Concert Review: Combichrist, Filter, Lord Of The Lost, Rabia Sorda

June 12, 2016

Munich, Backstage Werk, June 5th, 2016 Right on time with the release of their newest album ‘This is where death begins’, Combichrist started their ‘Make Europe Great Again’ tour, which will keep them on our beautiful continent until late July. They’re taking three bands out on tour, Filter, Lord Of The Lost and Rabia Sorda. First off, you got to go see that show. The energy those bands bring on stage is one of a kind. Rabia Sorda and Lord Of The Lost, both German bands, created an awesome atmosphere from the beginning. It’s not a common thing for opening bands to get as much positive responses from the crowd. Not so that day. When Rabia Sorda entered the stage at 7.30 pm, the people were still pouring into the venue, since they only opened a small side entrance. Some people might have missed parts of a good show, which is always a bit annoying. Lord Of The Lost played a one hour set, which is pretty long, considering them as an opening act [Read More]

Annual “Punk Rock Bowling” Music Festival celebrates it’s 18th year in Las Vegas!

June 12, 2016

What started as a music-industry bowling league back in 1999 has become one of the premier punk-rock music festivals in the United States. Punk Rock Bowling celebrated it’s 18th year over Memorial Day weekend in Downtown Las Vegas. It’s been incredibly special to watch the festival grow over the years and develop a life of it’s own (I started going in 2011). Here is what makes Punk Rock Bowling special!   The Festival – Punk Rock Bowling moved to Downtown Las Vegas in 2011. That was my first PRB, and I took a Greyhound bus from San Francisco to see Headliners like the Descendents, Cock Sparrer, and Dropkick Murphys. Since then, the festival has expanded to include more bands, more vendors, and more space to socialize. This year included the following notable acts rocking the festival stage! It’s interesting to note that there is only one stage at PRB. This allows the crowd to feel the outdoor festival vibe without it seeming overwhelming. Punk Rock Bowling’s festival setup (tweaked ever so slightly over the [Read More]

Blue October brings bliss and inspiration to San Francisco at Regency show

June 10, 2016

Last night Blue October returned to San Francisco as they made a stop on their highly successful Home Tour in support of their recent album, Home. The album which was released on April 22nd is absolutely amazing and has been garnering high praises as it continues to climb the charts as well as a No. 1 spot on the Billboard’s Top Rock Albums. The night kicked off with a great set by Danny Malone. You can check out our coverage of their set and an interview with them here. They are an incredible, up and coming band that brings the emotion to life with their music. The crowd grew with excitement as the intro The Still began to play. Blue October took to the stage and kicked it off with I Want It. From that moment on, the crowd was help captive by the incredible performance by Blue October as they played fan favorites and plenty of new tracks off Home. I know I have mentioned before how inspirational and emotional a Blue October concert [Read More]

Interview with Danny Malone as they bring emotions to life with their set at Regency Ballroom

June 10, 2016

Last night was a magical one as we were in San Francisco to cover a night of the Blue October Home Tour.  We were pleased to find out that Danny Malone would be opening the show at Regency Ballroom.  Danny Malone creates music that brings influences of folk, indie, rock, alternative to life but with much richer and deep emotions. He truly is engaging with his lyrics and connects with the audience. His band includes Charley Siess on drums and Kenni Hede on bass. Together these three delivered an emotionally driven set. Check out photos from their set by our Rockin Ryan: We had the chance to chat with the band before their set and you can check out the interview here: Make sure to stay tuned as they will be working on their new album and bringing us new music.
