Muchachito vibrates Eastside Luv Wednesday night  in a “total hoot”

April 8, 2019

Patrick O’Heffernan ( Boyle Heights)  eights, CA) HEastside Luv Wine Bar, one of the focal points of the Mexican-American culture in LA, was vibrated down to its foundation Wednesday night by a Spaniard, Muchachito Bombo Infierno.   Standing at the end of the bar with his personalized acoustic guitar and an amplified zapeteado platform, he bought his frenetic energy, stomping rhythms and howling humorous lyrics to the raised stage of ESL’s long bar.  It was a not-to-be-forgotten night – or, as one fan said to me, a total hoot. Presented by Sunset Eclectico, la’s homegrown Latino fusion music, arts and dance promotor credited for bringing such talents as Flor Amargo and Mono Sound to La audiences, Muchachito put on a nonstop, rocket-fueled show that lasted forever – actually around 2 hours – and migrated from the stage to the dance pole at the other end of the bar and down to the floor where he sang, stomped, and laughed, surrounded by a forest of flashing cellphones.   Muchachito (Jairo Perera) started as a singer and guitarist [Read More]

An evening with Devin Townsend in Munich at the Freiheiz. By Alex Bock

April 8, 2019

In November 2018 Devin Townsend released some special tour dates for up, close and personal acoustic shows with Q&A’s for the fans afterwards. So here we were at the Freiheiz in Munich in April 2019. The show was, as was to be expected, sold out. Like many acoustic shows there were seats in neat rows and some bar stools on the side walls. The stage set up was simple, a chair, two acoustic guitars, a laptop, two monitors and a small sound effect board. But hey, you don’t need big amps, colorful lighting arrangements and loud music for a performance to be good. What you need is a musician who really loves what he’s doing and is an outstanding artist. With Devin Townsend we got everything we needed. The show lasted for three hours with a 20-minute break in-between. Devin performed songs like ‘Funeral’, ‘Sister’ and ‘Hyperdrive’, but also many from the Devin Townsend Project like ‘Bring Him Home’, ‘Ih-Ah!’ and ‘Let It Roll’. He also included one Strapping Young Lads song, ‘Love’. Although he’s [Read More]

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST: Get hooked on Kelsy Karter with her new video for What U

April 8, 2019

For our spotlight artist, we want to feature the incredibly talented and extremely addictive Kelsy Karter! The Australian artist is now LA-based and she is ready to capture your attention with her latest video release of What U. She co-wrote the song alongside the same team behind her viral record “Harry”, with Anthony Rossomando and Tony Esterly serving as collaborators on the record. About the new track, Kelsey comments, I remember one day in the studio I was talking to Ant and Tony about how I’ve always been the girl in the boys club. Being told what to do and say and think and feel. But it’s just not my style to sit back and let others dictate those things. After the Harry stunt, and all the hate that came my way, I wanted to release something that would show my fans that no matter what circumstances you’re faced with, or trouble you find yourself in, you gotta do you and be the best version of yourself, no matter what. I’m not the girl that’s [Read More]

April 2, 2019

To be truly in love with music is to listen with your heart and soul. Whatever your favorite genre is, there is always a some that comes along and completely grabs a hold of you and shakes you to your core.  For me today, it was Gallatin Pike by Annie Bacon & her OSHEN. I couldn’t help but listen to the song, not once, but over 4 times in a row. Each time falling in love with a new piece of the music.  It is mystical and captivating, but if I had to sum it up…. It simply makes you “feel”! Annie captures pure beauty and magic with her track, haunting vocals that open your heart and feed your soul. The song was recorded live right here in Santa Rosa with Santa Rosa, CA band eight belles (Jessi Phillips and Henry Nagle) along with Kevin Carducci (Easy Leaves) and Dan Ford. Henry Nagle who engineered and played pedal steele on the song brings a brilliant haunting aura to the track that is absolutely enveloping. Gallatin [Read More]
