The music of Matthew Stewart heals my soul

I know I have been quite busy since coming back from NAMM and working on the Online Magazine, but I also have been quite busy taking care of my 79 year old mother, who has been battling Parkinson’s Disease for the past 15 years. The hardest part has been the last year, since my father passed away from cancer. Watching her includes me staying with her for two to three days a week, all day, and it is exhausting in many ways. She has at times become quite irritated, cranky, and hard to be around.

Well, this past weekend was my time to be with my mother from Friday morning until Sunday morning. With Sunday morning being my birthday, I was going to spend the day with my family afterwards. Well, it was anything but peaceful, and unfortunately my time with my Mom was harder than ever, trying to deal with not being able to make her comfortable, to actually try to calm her down from her anger and frustration. It was a brutal 48 hours that included a lot of hurtful things said to me, without my Mom even realizing she was doing it, and I am sure she didn’t intentionally try to hurt me, or at least I hope.

But when I left Sunday morning, I literally felt drained and my heart was breaking. I joked with my sister how it was like being born again! The trauma and pain was all there and then I was just set free to deal with the world. I could laugh only because my soul was crying. I was literally broken down and sad beyond words. Enough with the sad details. Then as always Music came to my aid, my rescue, my solace in a time of sadness.  That morning my husband took me and the kids to take the ferry to San Francisco. I was so dejected and emotionally drained, but I wanted to get out for my birthday and have a good time with the family.

Shortly after taking the ferry and arriving at the Pier, my soul would be touched by the beautiful music of Matthew Stewart who was playing outside at Pier 39. It was perfect. My boys stopped so we could listen and it was all I needed to feel whole again. Matthew’s voice was like my father’s arms wrapping around me to thank me for sticking it out with the hard times with my Mom. I truly felt my father with me telling me it was going to be okay. Just to breathe. It was comforting and warm and we all enjoyed the moment.  His sound reminds me of a cross of Bon Iver and Paul Simon. His songs not only tell stories like the great songwriters but emotionally draw you in and feed your soul.

We purchased his CD that he had available which is an all acoustic CD of beautiful songs that you will love. Some of my absolute favorites from his CD are “I Can’t Lose I can Only Win”, “No Compromise”, “Rocket of Desire” and definitely  “What Do You Want from Me”. Also make sure to check out the amazing guitar on “The Shift”.

My whole mood changed after listening to to Matthew’s songs. I thank you Matthew for healing my soul with your amazing music.  You truly made my birthday something special and wonderful and turned the whole day around for me. I am looking forward to checking out more of your music!

You can check out more of Matthew on his website and make sure to purchase his CD on CD Baby or on Itunes. Everyone needs to have his beautiful music in their life. For now, you can take a listen and watch him perform some of my favorite songs here:

Enjoy and nourish your your soul with the incredible music of Matthew Stewart.
