Buckcherry rocks Lancaster, Ohio contributed by Tara Williams

It seems like yesterday I was sitting in my parents house spinning my dads old vinyls. His collection was vast and allowed me to immerse myself into the heart of 1970-1980’s rock. I’ve maintained my thirst and level of excitement for that kind of organic sound. Music that seemed to be laid out raw, unedited by energetic free thinking bands.

A local brand new venue hosted Buckcherry this weekend where I caught their show. A stage popped up on the outskirts of Lancaster, Ohio in between Amish country & miles of cornfields. Front man Josh Todd strutted his way to the mic and announced to the crowd that they were about to show us many new uses AND meanings for the word F#ck!

Buckcherry recently released their 6 song EP F#CK (each track creatively uses the F-Bomb keeping the theme throughout). “Say F#ck It” and “Somebody F#cked With Me” were two crowd pleasers on a cold rainy night. They hit the crowd with favorites like “Lit Up” & “Crazy Bitch”. The lighters fans held up in the 80’s have been replaced by cell phones lighter apps. Except at a Buckcherry show…it was all middle fingers in the air “All Night Long.”

My favorite part of the night came as a familiar sound from my past drifted in my ears…the first few bars of AC/DC’s “Big Balls”. It instantly transported me back to 1981 when I got caught for rocking out the ONE vinyl I was banned from spinning…AC/DC’s Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Track #2 got my teenage self put on old school “house arrest” for two long weeks. Buckcherry has definitely made the songs they wanted to make without regard to the traditional rules or topics of mainstream rock. They said F#ck the mold playing whatever they want. Who else could transition a cover of “Big Balls” smoothly into “Gluttony”?
