Sunday night we trekked down to San Francisco to catch Cherri Bomb play at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. It was a night filled with great bands, many were from Santa Rosa like us. All the bands were great and will bring you individual coverage on them to include, Oh! The Horror, A Hero To Fall, Chapters, and Awoken Shadows.
Cherri Bomb is:
We had the chance to talk with Cherri Bomb before their set and are pleased to bring that interview to you here:
Now, let me tell you about the spectacular set that Cherri Bomb performed. These four have infectious charismatic personalities that perfectly translate through their music. The crowd was instantly jolted with energy as they took the stage. They were playing at the Above DNA and as I have told you before it is very limited on stage size but these four dominated it.
Miranda not only holds down the rhythm guitar but delights us as she plays the keyboard and also should receive high praise for her powerful vocals. Casey on lead guitar is a madman as he shreds out killer riffs and maneuvers the stage with intense energy. Nia on drums is awesome to watch because she pounds out the sticks and maintains a perfect studio quality sound. Nia displays her joie de vivre personality and brings the life to the drums through her energy and sparkle. Rena throws down some robust basslines and thrills us with her captivating vocals. You can’t help but get drawn into her expressive character. What is incredible is that each of these four have a standout stage presence which delivers the audience a top notch performance. The set list for the night was:
- Shake The Ground
- Bean Freaks
- Scars
- Creepin
- Middle Finger
- If I Told You
Encore:
- Hiss
- In One Ear ( Cage the Elephant cover)
I must tell you about the exceptional encore performance we were treated to. After they whisked off stage as we were treated to a narration about a tale which brought us into their characters as they returned. I would much rather be quite vague so I don’t ruin the surprise for you when you get to see it live for yourself. They returned with a theatrical presence and brought life to the storyline through their music. They had mentioned in the interview that they were going to be doing more theatrical presentations and it was fantastic. I would love it if they continued to do more or a complete set. It was climatic and dramatic and quite effective at bringing the music to a completely new level of appreciation. We can’t go without telling you about the excellent cover of Cage the Elephant’s “In One Year” which they completely owned!
Hats off to Cherri Bomb for their astounding performance and we can’t wait to see them once again. This just might continue to be one of my favorite concerts of the year. I would encourage you to check them out whenever they are coming to a venue near you. Check out the photographs by Rockin Ryan from their DNA show:
