Lydia Can’t Breathe, Florida rock/metal band has just hit the road to tour with Otep. These metal fused rockers deliver catchy progressions as they blend growling and natural vocals and wrap them in forthright vocals. They have a sound that will have you wanting more. They have been furiously working on their second album and are set to release this gem of material on October 1st.

Recently they released one of my favorite music videos for their first single off the album, “Time“. Check it out here:

We had the opportunity to interview Kyle Bolduc, lead vocals/guitar and are pleased to bring that you that here:

Music Junkie Press: Can you tell us how Lydia Can’t Breathe started and have you added a permanent bassist?

Kyle Bolduc: “I started jamming out with my drummer that I went to high school with, we started cutting class to practice, and eventually we got Dan to come join us. We do have some old members that aren’t in the band at this point, that started the original band. Then later on we found more serious members, a couple years into practicing we really wanted to do the whole tour thing. That’s when we built up with our new drummer, and a new bass guitar player. I wasn’t the original guitar player. I was just the singer, but then I started playing and singing. That’s pretty much how we became the band. Our bass player now is Shawn Goree, he has played in a lot of bands. He joined us around March, toured with us, came out on the road with Mushroom for a month. After the tour, we asked him if he wanted to be a full time member, and he said he definitely wanted to.”

Music Junkie Press: People might mistake you guys for a New/Upcoming Band but you guys have been pounding the pavement for some time now. I know that in the past few years, Florida has been really coming out with some great metal/alternative rock bands. How has it been for you guys in the Florida scene?

Kyle Bolduc: “It’s been pretty good, we have done good in Central Florida, cause that’s you know, where we’re from. We have our home base, we built from our friends, and from there we just kept spreading the word further. We are pretty known in the Florida markets. We play Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, from time to time, and have stayed active in the Cocoa Beach scene. We try to play as many shows as possible that are worth our time.”

Music Junkie Press: I understand you are currently working on your second album, how is that going and do you have any updates on that for us?

Kyle Bolduc: The whole album came together really well. We have completed the project entirely, and we just finished putting the final touches on it. Our release date is right on track with our upcoming tour, we have it set for October 1st. As far as the album content, it really is the best material that we have to date, the first CD was more or less like a collage of everything we had worked on for the first four years of the band, when we weren’t really that serious, but we just felt like we had to get it down on paper. That was pretty much why we released the first album, and the second album is more or less like… We are real musicians now, we all have been playing together for some time, especially Dan and I, we are the writers of the album, and we have been playing guitar together for nearly ten years now. It really.. Yeah.. We took it to the next level as a team, most of all we just wanted to make sure the production matched the quality of the song writing.”

Music Junkie Press: We have had a chance to check out your new video for “Time” and will share it with our audience. Not only is  a great video, the song just Kicks Ass! I love the cartoon video! If Lydia Can’t Breathe became it’s own comic book what would each of your characters/super hero name and powers be?

Kyle Bolduc: “Well we would each have unique powers of course! Dan would have the ability to read animals minds and speak to them, because he was bit by a pit-bull. Josh would be the ginga-ninja and would know every type of martial arts (the kid already has 8 arms). My special power would be to just scream so loud your face melts and Shawn’s super power would be splitting the earth with super low bass!”

Music Junkie Press: You guys definitely have a unique sound that is your own that I LOVE! What albums were the most influential for you guys growing up?

Kyle Bolduc: “For me, I’d have to say, like Toxicity, Slipknot’s self titled album.. Mudvayne’s 2000 album..Those are the three albums that really had an impact on me as a singer. Besides that, all the Deftones albums. as well Speaking for Dan, he listened to a lot of unearthed, Blink 182, and that’s where I would say it originally started. I introduced him to Metal, and then he took it to the next level and started listening to a lot of underground bands. A lot of progressive metal definitely and some punk. Josh has a influence from some jazz, I don’t know what albums specifically. But I do know he is influenced by Carter Beuford, Dave Mathews Band’s drummer. Josh doesn’t really listen to a lot of metal on his off time. As far as creative influences that pretty much covers it.”

Music Junkie Press: Can you remember what was the first concert you ever went to was?

Kyle Bolduc: “First concert I ever attended, it was Warped Tour and Green Day was head lining it. It was probably a good 15 years ago, and from that point on, I was hooked! It is pretty amazing when you are just a kid and you get to witness for the first time, bands playing in front of that many people!”

Music Junkie Press: If you guys could plan your dream lineup with any band/artist living or dead, what 3 would you want on your tour?

Kyle Bolduc: “Uhhhhh… I’m gonna go with, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, and The Beatles.”

Music Junkie Press: Today you hear about some great covers where you actually have to really sit and listen to identify what the original song was. If you guys could take any song from another genre and turn it into a Lydia Can’t Breathe style what song might that be?

Kyle Bolduc: “I would say, you should just check out the new album October 1st on iTunes and you just might hear a special cover Lydia Can’t Breathe style!”

Music Junkie Press: I see you have some shows upcoming in Florida, any plans for a tour soon? California needs Lydia Can’t Breathe!!

Kyle Bolduc: “Actually, we just jumped on an great opportunity to tour with Otep! We will be on the entire Inner-Galactic Tour 2013. As far as specific dates go for California, we will be in Fresno Sep. 20 at Strummers, and Sep. 22 at DNA Lounge, we hope to see you guys out there, it’s gonna be a crazy party!”

Music Junkie Press: If I could peak into your Ipod, what song or artist might we be most surprised at finding in there?

Kyle Bolduc: “Michael Jackson, Eminem, and LMFAO.”

Music Junkie Press: Is there anything else you would like to share with our audience?

Kyle Bolduc: “Oh yeah! We have a new music video coming out to kick off the tour and new album with a stunning new visual directed by Daniel Wilson of 30 Ent. Most importantly we want to say, we truly appreciate everyone that has taken the time to check bands like us out, we are independent, and every person in the scene that cares really makes a difference to us. Anyone who is coming into contact with us at a show, or online, is probably a true music fan, that’s the foundation of what we are about. We hope to break the cliche, same repetitive, industry bred music, and let everyone know we make music for the fans, nothing else!

Music Junkie Press: Thanks again for the time.

Kyle Bolduc: “Thank you for having us be apart of this interview, we greatly appreciate the support and hope you guys like the new music and visuals. Let us know if there is anything else we can ever do, and we will make it happen!”
