When you think of Detroit and music; you think of Motown and the starting point for so many artists! Berry Gordy’s Motown will historically have it’s place in music industry history. Fast forward to today and Detroit is still delivering some of the freshest, most beautiful sounds to your ears.
I recently introduced you to one of those fresh new sounds from Detroit, Stereo Jane. Stereo Jane features the energetic talent of young Detroit natives, 16 year old twins Sydney and Mia Schmier. Sidney is on vocals and Mia is on drums. Also in their band is the talented trio of Joey Gaydos Jr. on lead guitar, Andrew Schachinger on keyboard and Randy Martin on Bass. Together they are amazing and a force to be reckoned with.
We had the opportunity to interview singer, Sydney Schmier and are pleased to bring that to you here:

Music Junkie Press: Hi Sydney, Thank you so much for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press. We love your music. I understand it is you and your twin sister who started Stereo Jane, how long ago did you two start?
Sydney: Yes. We were actually six years old. We were really young and our dad used to be in a band and he kind of really influenced us. We really loved it.
Music Junkie Press: What artists or musicians most inspire you for your music?
Sydney: Aretha Franklin, definitely!
Music Junkie Press: What is Stereo Jane currently working on now?
Sydney: We are working on a new album and it is going to be done in a couple of months. We were planning on recording all of our songs so they are up to date sometime around December or January.
Music Junkie Press: If Stereo Jane could cover a song from a completely different genre, what might you choose?
Sydney: Honestly, I don’t know. We have been doing covers of like Stone Temple Pilots and Sugar Pie Honey Bunch, old songs like that. I think we could do, to change it up like a current song. I think that would be kind of cool, we haven’t really tried that.
Music Junkie Press: Now if Stereo Jane could collaborate with any other artist, who would that be?
Sydney: Oh my Gosh, I love Imagine Dragons, they are like my favorite right now. That would be my choice.
Music Junkie Press: I love the video you have out for Sing It. It is so great, are you working on any more videos right now?
Sydney: Ya, I don’t know if I am supposed to say this yet or not, but we are working on a music video for Exxodus Pictures. It is another one by them and it is for their movie.
Music Junkie Press: That is great! We can’t wait for it. With the holidays coming up, how about a couple questions … What was the oddest gift you have ever received?
Sydney: The oddest gift? Mmm. Oh My Gosh, my Grandma, she is hilarious. I don’t think she knew it was weird but it was the funniest thing. She gave us a little bag of old things that she found around her house. (Music Junkie Press: That is so cute!) But one of them was, I don’t know what they were called, You know in a lingerie drawer there is a scented little bra looking thing. (Music Junkie Press: Yes, the scented sachet packs!) Ya, that is like the weirdest thing that I ever got.
Music Junkie Press: How about what is your favorite holiday food?
Sydney: I eat so much food, I love food, I have no idea. I don’t think I could choose. I would have to say Turkey, I love turkey.
Music Junkie Press: Last holiday question, what is your favorite holiday tradition?
Sydney: I love Christmas Eve. We go to my Grandmas that night and do presents and everything.
Music Junkie Press: I love Christmas Eve too! If I could peak into your Ipod, what artist or song might I be most surprised at finding in there?
Sydney: Surprised by? I don’t really think so. I have some Marvin Gaye.
Music Junkie Press: What was your first concert you ever went to?
Sydney: Actually it was Sheryl Crow. My Mom used to play Sheryl Crow in the car all the time.
Music Junkie Press: How about the last concert you went to?
Sydney: Last concert I went to was Pink. It was last year.
Music Junkie Press: I love PINK! Our friends in New Politics went out on tour with her. With growing up with your father, you have grown with an appreciation for all types of music and genres and it comes out in your music. We are very excited for the new album. Lastly, is there anything would like to share with our audience?
Sydney: I think you should include something about Paramore because Paramore and Aretha Franklin are the two that I was most inspired by. Thank you so much.
