A great new rock band from the Stornoway from Isle of Lewis, Scotland called The Broken Ravens are our Tuesdays Travels Pick of the Week for Music from around the world! You are really going to love this band, they remind me of a mix of Black Sabbath with Soundgarden. The Broken Ravens are Kevin Clark on Drums, Lotto Ferguson on Bass/Vocals, Calum ‘Thrash’ Macaulay on Guitar/Vocals and Bugsy Maclean on Guitar/Vocals.
What is great about this band is that they each have very diverse musical influences and together they have created their own unique sound which has to be heard! We asked Kevin if they could name three of their biggest influences and here is what he told us, “As all our influences are so diverse, we nearly ended up in a big fight over choosing just three , but, after a struggle, we managed to get it down to 4. Our main inspirations are Slayer, Black Sabbath, Elmore James and Anathema”.
The band has been working hard on putting the final touches on their debut album. Kevin says, “Just now we are putting together demo’s for an album. We have quite a few finished (11 or so) and want to put out the strongest album we can. We are also releasing our first single in a couple of weeks, available through every major digital retailer, we recorded, mixed, produced and will be releasing ourselves (no label). All the proceeds of the single “Pressure” are being donated to a Cancer hospice. All our demos are available for free download on our Soundcloud page.” We look forward to the release of “Pressure” which is due out on December 2nd so make sure to get it especially with the proceeds going to such a worthy cause.
You can check out their recent video for “Scars” which is incredible. Kevin explains more about the song, “Scars came about one night we were working on a song called “White Gold”. We stopped for a break and Bugsy said “Lets write a Punk song”, Thrash had a riff and within 10 minutes Scars was complete musically. Lyrics are based on various encounters with psychotic women and came together just as quick.” Take a listen and you will love their music!
The band is going to be heading out on a Scottish tour in December and for now, make sure to head over to their social media sites and stay up to date on the latest news for The Broken Ravens.
