On January 22, Suicidal Tendencies performed in Solothurn, Switzerland with Terror, Strife and Evergreen Terrace. It was a night full of high energy, moshing, stage diving and loud kick ass music. Unfortunately, a 28 year old man from Solothurn attempted a stage dive and the crowd didn’t exactly catch him correctly as he fell to the floor. All seemed to be ok as the man got up and walked around. The venue security quickly acted to insure the man was alright as they insisted on him being evaluated at the hospital.
“Our team decided, however, that he is immediately taken to hospital care,” Pipo Kofmehl explained. Sadly, complications arose for the young man and he died after a seizure on January 24th. Although the prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the incident, a spokeswoman for the state police, Thalia Schweize was certain that the death was accidental.
It is quite a sad story and definitely reminds us of the tragic death of Daniel Nosek at the Lamb of God concert in 2010 in which Randy Blythe had to go to trial and was eventually found not guilty of any wrongdoing. Randy even sent out a very personal plea in which he told fans that they were not welcome to stage dive at their events. Here is an exerpt of that plea:
“Absolutely no one is welcome on the stage if we have not invited you up there, and unless you are a small child or in a wheel chair, that is not likely to happen. Please respect this. If you do take the stage, we will immediately stop playing, you will be removed from the stage with great swiftness ,and thrown out of the show with no refund, no questions asked. I do not care one bit if anyone thinks I’m being a jerk for writing this or feels I am being harsh. I have been through hell over the last year, I did my best to do the right thing, I am still trying my best to do the right thing, and anyone who cannot understand why we as a band feel this way is a complete and utter idiot who probably shouldn’t be allowed to leave their house anyway.”
You can read the full plea of Randy Blythe here. So please be safe out there at the concerts. Also, if you are in the front where people do stage dive and you see someone jumping into the crowd, DO YOUR BEST at helping them safely get down and back on their feet. I have seen so many times people who are in front and if someone attempts a stage dive they back up, almost as if to see them fall on their face. WTF?? Why? I have myself, moved forward in attempts to fill the area so they can safely land. If you are not going to be there to help, then get the hell out of the front or go watch on the side or back. Just do your best to help your fellow music lover and be safe out there!
