Summertime for me, is usually filled with long relaxing days, listening to music, sitting out on the patio in the evening and enjoying a really good book. Well this time I have a book that is perfect for you! Whether you are a long time or new Doors fan, music lover or not. The book is The Doors Examined by Jim Cherry. This book is perfect for all levels of Doors buffs or simply interested in a piece of rock and roll history. There are so many books out about the Doors but with this book, you get an honest, non biased in depth look at all aspects of Doors and the supporting characters who where witness to the events surrounding the Doors. In my early twenties, I actually worked on Oliver Stone’s controversial movie, The Doors as an extra for several of their concert scenes as well as the infamous Indian dance scene with Val Kilmer portraying Jim Morrison. I will have to try and dig up photos for you.
Jim provides an easy to read format and is straight and concise on all his details. He does not muddle it up with his own interpretation of how things went or what he thought people were thinking. He truly gives a detailed account of these events. I, having considered myself a big Doors fan and I even learned details about certain events that had me drawn in to read more and more. You will be captivated about the ghost tale as I was. That alone will have people drawn to reading the book since I have never heard much about it. It was incredible since I stayed up quite late finding out new facts and new details that I simply couldn’t put the book down. Later in the week, I had to head down to LA for work and couldn’t help finding myself checking places that were mentioned in the book, and it truly had me reflecting as we were blasting LA Woman down the Sunset Strip.
I highly recommend reading The Doors Examined whether you are a Doors aficionado or don’t even know who they were! (How dare you not know them!) It is a perfect read even if you are simply a rock fan, or interested in delving into the fascination that is the Doors and is still alive today. It gives you an exceptional account of rock and roll history. After I read it, my 15 year old son who plays in his own band, very familiar with the Doors music but had no prior knowledge of their historical place in musical history, and he read it in one sitting. He was drawn into it from the start and loved reading about some of the concert events and the mishaps at the recording sessions.
After you read it, you can continue your Doors fascination by reading more from Jim through The Doors Examiner and his articles on all things Doors. Jim brings you informative articles on everything Doors related. Even though they were relatively a short lived band, their impact on rock and roll is immense. With informative and in depth views given by Jim, the legacy of the Doors will live on.
“The Doors Examined” is available at Amazon, Kindle, Barnes and Noble and Nook Books in the U.S. in the U.K. Amazon as well and international sales at the Book Depository. You can also purchase directly from Jim’s site at www.jymsbooks.com.
