Five Finger Death Punch release video for “House of the Rising Sun”

March 24, 2014

One of our favorite bands, Five Finger Death Punch have released their new video for their cover of “House of the Rising Sun”. It is awesome and one thing is for sure,, when 5FDP do something, they always do it with a 150% passion. One of the reasons, I love this band so much. The Mad Max style video was filmed in the high deserts of Nevada and was directed by the band’s guitarist Zoltan Bathory in conjunction with Thought Pirates Film’s Brian Neal.  Zoltan explains,   “The song’s lyrics are about gambling and drinking and we wanted to recreate those gun swinging outlaw poker scenes familiar from classic western movies, however I just couldn’t see us riding horses in the video so we shifted eras and went for a Mad Max-like post apocalyptic vibe with the cars and the bikes we ride anyway. We didn’t want any performance footage; the plan was to make the song sort of a soundtrack to a short story.”     Five Finger Death Punch have had great success with their two-part masterwork, THE WRONG SIDE [Read More]

Strange Talk from Australia captures the crowd in San Francisco

March 22, 2014

Strange Talk were quite busy performing nine shows at SXSW this year and then they set out to tour with Sounds. Last night Melbourne, Australian alternative pop band, Strange Talk performed in San Francisco at the Regency Ballroom. These guys have a great new refreshing sound. They blend a bit of the eighties pop with a touch of 90’s electro and then wrapped into their own  edgy style. Strange Talk is set to release their self-produced debut album Cast Away on April 29th via Wind-Up Records. All songs on the album were mixed by Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix) with the exception of “Climbing Walls,” “Eskimo Boy” and “Is It Real?” which were mixed by Eliot James (Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club). One thing is for sure, Strange Talk truly capture their studio sound and bring it to life on the stage. The crowd loved them and they captured the hearts of San Francisco. One of the highlights was when they perfomed their new single, “Young Hearts”. I am absolutely in love with this song. It is an upbeat fun song with a catchy [Read More]

Interview with Dirty Groove Rockers CROBOT as they take over the DNA in San Francisco!

March 22, 2014

I have been looking forward to covering a lot of shows this month, but none as much as Crobot. Crobot is a four piece band from Pennsylvania that have a Dirty Groove Rock sound. They are like no other band out there today. Crobot is bringing the life back into classic rock/ stoner rock  with a double dose of groove in a modern style. Think like Zep ala Soundgarden with a side of Wolfmother. They have such a killer sound that is groove heavy, riff rock or as they say: “Bang your head and shake your ass at the same time“. That is the perfect way to describe it it. One thing they are not lacking is ENERGY and you definitely can’t miss them. We were excited to have them coming to San Francisco and we caught up with them before playing their set at the DNA Lounge. Here is that interview:   These guys are so much fun and they all have an infectious laugh. Their personalities light up the room on and off [Read More]

Get ready to be swept off your feet by the alluring vocals of Roméo Testa

March 22, 2014

I wanted to share with you the amazing and alluring vocals of a young musician from Los Angeles. The first moment I heard his voice, I ran back over to the computer to get closer and re-examine who I just put on. Allow me to introduce you to Roméo Testa.  His voice was magical, filled with such passion and yet maintains a serene vulnerability. You can’t help be mesmerized by him and you are fully engaged as his words touch your heart and his song dances around you. Roméo Testa began his passion in music at the young age of 7 when he took up the violin and the guitar at age 8. He then went on to learn other instruments, and over the years began his incredible journey into  singing and songwriting. His style can be classified as acoustic rock or folk rock, but is definitely not limited to there. His songwriting skills are brilliant, as he is in the caliber of such great musicians like Ray LaMontagne, John Mayer or Jason Mraz. Yes, he is just [Read More]

Blake Collins’ debut EP: a new talent with a Lennon sound and good potential

March 21, 2014

Blake Collins’ debut EP: a  new talent with a Lennon sound and good  potential by Patrick O’Heffernan  Host, Music FridayLive!   Even at his young age, Blake Collins is a renaissance man:  painting, collage, drawing, poetry, and of course,  music.  A young, multi-talented artist with boyish good looks and a degree in fine art from UCLA,  he is very busy.  He has released his first EP, A Bell Locks In, and is working on a second EP and a full length album while he produces for others and plays bass, keyboard  and guitar for three other bands. He also designed and produced the artwork for A Bell Locks In. Recorded in a home studio, the EP shows his strong potential as a songwriter and singer, although the sound is little  homemade. A more dynamic microphone or a soundproofed studio would have nailed the production as professional.  But, as it is – which is certainly not bad – Blake’s first venture is well worth trying out and he is an artist to watch. By far my favorite [Read More]
