State Line Empire rocks the Whisky during NAMM week

February 3, 2014

One thing I really enjoy during NAMM week is catching an awesome concert after a long day walking the floors of the Anaheim Convention Center.  During our NAMM week, we had long days and then even longer nights. On Saturday night, right after NAMM closed, we headed down to Hollywood. We got there in time so we could catch our friends in State Line Empire perform.  State Line Empire were playing at the Whisky-A-GoGo for one of their 50th Anniversary shows along with Fault Line, Jetboy and Faster Pussycat. Well, State Line Empire definitely put on a great show that night and even played some of their new songs, especially my favorite; “Raise Your Sins”.  Rockin Ryan was running around photographing the night and he even ran it Jinxx of Black Veil Brides who came out for the show. Ryan asked Jinxx after State Line Empire‘s set about the night and he shared with Ryan how much he loves the Whisky and it’s atmosphere and also how good State Line Empire’s set was!  Of course, [Read More]

Interview with Justin Emord of Love and a .38 at NAMM 2014

January 31, 2014

Another one of our favorite bands that we found at NAMM is Love and a .38. They are truly one of the hardest working bands in Los Angeles and have a tight family (fan) base that extends across the country!  We ran into bassist, Justin Emord at the Hipshot Products booth at NAMM 2014. We were able to grab for a quick interview as he had his bass, Aurora on display. Check out our interview here:   We are excited to head down for Love and a .38’s upcoming show at the Troubadour in Hollywood on February 15th.  Now I think I am going to have to crank up some Love and  a .38 and I know the perfect song…. “Just a Woman”. That song is so bad ass and has such a bluesy classic rock sound to it and I just fell in love with it instantly. It has a great chorus that makes me want to cruise out on the open highway with no worries and my Love and a .38 turned up loud. If you [Read More]

Kris Gruen at the Sanctuary in Santa Monica by Patrick O’Heffernan of Music Friday Live!

January 31, 2014

Kris Gruen at the Sanctuary in Santa Monica Performance 1.24.14  The Sanctuary, just off Main Street in Santa Monica, is one of LA’s little oddities.  During the week it is a small, traditional Christian church.  But one weekend a month the staff clears out the nave, moves the alter and puts out a table in the back with wine, soft drinks, potato chips and a bottle for donations for musicians.  It becomes a local music venue. The artists singing a playing there range from neighborhood garage bands whose day jobs really, really need to be secure, to rising stars staying on the Westside while they pitch other venues around the city and have a Saturday night free to introduce themselves to a Westside audience.  And Westside audiences can be equally diverse: street people who come in for free snacks and entertainment to music junkies looking for the next rising star, to friends of the booked artists. This past Saturday night, The Sanctuary saw the usual audience mix of  locals, music fans and artists’ friends settle [Read More]

Interview with Farewell My Love at NAMM 2014

January 30, 2014

NAMM 2014 was filled with so many talented musicians and each day we ran into so many great bands. We were excited to catch up and interview one of my favorite bands, Farewell My Love.  This is one band that not only do they kick ass rockin but are some of the most nicest people in the industry today.  We were hanging around and ran into three of the members, Ryan Howell,  Röbby Creasey and Logan Thayer. You can check out the full video here:   Farewell, My Love released their debut album, “Gold Tattoos” and is a MUST HAVE album. Two of my personal favorites on the album are Mirror, Mirror and Afraid of the Dark.  Check out their music video for Mirror, Mirror here:   Make sure to head over to Itunes here and pick up your copy of “Gold Tattoos”  They have also announced tour dates set to start in March. A great weekend for dance: Rory Partin and his All Star Big Band at Santa Monica’s Typhoon

January 29, 2014

A great weekend for dance: Rory Partin and his All Star Big Band at Santa Monica’s Typhoon by Patrick O’Heffernan  Now that Daft Punk has abandoned Electronic Dance Music (and won a Grammy for the effort!) I thought I would explore other ways to get my heel-clicking kicks.  So Saturday night I joined Trombone Shorty and a thousand or so of his fans at the El Ray Theater in Los Angeles for a swaying and bobbing New Orleans-blues/rock dance madness party, and Sunday night I ventured to Santa Monica’s Typhoon venue for Rory Partin and his All Star Big Band. Both were a blast. You saw Trombone Shorty for his appearance on the Grammys playing with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Madonna  during the mass wedding.  You may not know Rory Partin, although he has played some pretty big venues including presidential balls for both President Bush and President Clinton and appears in hip showcase clubs  like Hotel Café with his wife, Alexa James, in his pop band, The Roamies. Needless to say,  this is [Read More]
