Greta Van Fleet; like a pair of shock paddles resuscitating the life of Rock n Roll

June 26, 2018

Within the last decade,  we have seen many bands deliver some good blips on the heartline of the rock and roll, but none as huge as the spike that Greta Van Fleet is making.  They are bringing a full on resuscitation to ROCK ‘N ROLL so get ready, hang on and enjoy the ride. We recently caught Greta Van Fleet perform at the beautiful intimate outdoor venue of John Anson Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood. The venue is situated in the rugged beauty of an LA County regional park. The setting was superb and as the bands took the stage, the sound was spot on. The crowd was greeted with a high energy gritty alt-rock set from SlothRust, LA/Brooklyn based three piece band. Their music is a great blend of 90’s grunge, garage punk, and alternative rock. The crowd grew to capacity as Greta Van Fleet were to take the stage. The excitement raced through the crowd as the lights dimmed and the band entered. From the first note to the last, the energy was [Read More]

Fuzzy Knight’s Blowin Smoke Rhythm & Blues band packs Harvelle’s with fun

June 26, 2018

Patrick O’Heffernan (Santa Monica, CA) If you like blues, dancing, and having fun there is no better band for you than Fuzzy Knight’s Blowin’ Smoke Rhythm & Blues Band with the Smokettes, and there is no better place to see them than at Harvelle’s in Santa Monica where I saw him Saturday night.  Knight grew up in St. Louis and witnessed almost all of the great R&B touring revues like Ray Charles, Ike Turner & the Kings of Rhythm, James Brown, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and so many more. That experience taught him lessons in the blues and in pleasing crowds that he uses every minute he is on stage. He was on stage Saturday night at Harvelle’s Saturday night for a lot of minutes with his full band a four piece horn section plus the fabulous Smokettes (and they ae fabulous – any one of these ladies could have been the lead singer).  Knight led the band from the back corner, in the groove with seasoned baselines and throaty vocals while drummer Carl [Read More]

Blue October at August Hall in SF; a true transcendent performance for the books

June 15, 2018

tran·scend·ent ˌtran(t)ˈsend(ə)nt/   adjective beyond or above the range of normal or merely physical human experience. “the search for a transcendent level of knowledge” surpassing the ordinary; exceptional. “the Blue October concert  was described as a “transcendent experience.””   Last night we ventured to San Francisco for the return of Blue October. They are currently out on tour as they prepare to release their ninth studio album, I Hope You’re Happy on August 17th via Up/Down-Brando Records. We have been anticipating this show as the music of Blue October has been the soundtrack of our lives for nearly the past 20 years. It was there for the good times, the bad times, the laughs, the tears, the triumphs, the losses and everything in between. We all have music that gets us through those times, but not often is it by the same artist/band. Most recently through our loss of the business and our home in the Santa Rosa fires, the music of Blue October was there as our staunch friend. Amid all the loss and struggle, we couldn’t help [Read More]

Kitten shines at the August Hall in San Francisco

June 15, 2018

We always encourage fans to get to shows early so you can catch the opening bands. You never know, because you may just find your new favorite band. Last night, is a perfect example. We were in San Francisco for the return of Blue October show at August Hall. The show was absolutely amazing. Check out review here. We had heard of Kitten and their impressive performances at several festivals, and we were excited to see them for the first time. Well, it will definitely be the first of many times we see them! They were incredible and have left a lasting impression on us.  They are an indie rock band from Los Angeles that brings to life a style of free fun loving alternative rock that was straight from the ’90s but with a fresh paint of energy and style. They reminded me of my all-time favorite band of the 80s’ & 90’s The Divinyls. They have an infectious charismatic energy that radiates from each one. Their stage presence was captivating and mesmerizing and [Read More]
