Photo Gallery of SWMRS at BottleRock Napa and catch them at LIVE105 BFD this Saturday

June 5, 2017

At BottleRock Napa we were excited to catch the SWMRS set. We have seen them a couple times before and they always give such an incredible high energy punk rock set. They got the crowd riled up with their angsty punk rock that captivated the crowd. The adrenaline was endless and they definitely gained thousands of more new fans that day. Their die hard fans were up front and center singing along with their fists in the air. It was spectacular to witness how this band has grown so much in the past couple years and they will continue to make huge strides in the music scene. Check out photos from their set by our Rockin Ryan: You can catch SWMRS this Saturday at LIVE105 BFD at Shoreline Amphitheatre. They will be playing on the Bud Light Festival Stage. Check out their video for Figuring it Out: Make sure to visit their social media sites and stay up to date on their latest news. Best Summer Ever Tour makes a stop in San Francisco with Shatterproof and Never Let This Go

June 5, 2017

OK San Francisco, it is time we have a little talk about live music… I know many of you might have been celebrating the Golden State Warriors Game 2 win, but you still had a chance to get out and enjoy a GREAT night of music. The Best Summer Ever Tour made a stop in San Francisco at the Bottom of the Hill and it was definitely a concert you shouldn’t have missed. The tour features Never Let This Go and Shatterproof along with local opener The Archer.  The Archer kicked off the night with a high energy grungy rock set. They are a very new band and you wouldn’t have guessed it was only their fifth or so show. They are off to a great start and we look forward to catching them at their upcoming shows. Next up was a kick ass set by Shatterproof. We were excited to catch them perform since they recently signed to Revival Recordings and were impressed by our first listen.  They topped our impressions and blew us away even [Read More]

LIVE’s extraordinary set at BottleRock Napa took me back to my 20’s

June 4, 2017

A very personal highlight for myself at BottleRock Napa 2017 has to be seeing the original lineup of LIVE perform. They have reunited and the original lineup of Kowalczyk, guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad Gracey are in the midst of a World Tour. In addition to touring they will be releasing new music. Their set brought me back to the first time I saw them, back in a small nightlclub (possibly the DNA Lounge or Paradise Lounge) in San Francisco in the early 90’s. It was right before they entered into mainstream success and it was such an honor to catch them in the intimate environment. One thing was certain, over the years, I have held bands live performances to the standards of LIVE’s performance in that small venue.  They had energy, adrenaline and passion exuding with every note, beat and lyric. Fast forward to BottleRock Napa 2017 and LIVE’s performance had me reminiscing of that first show. They hit the stage and were non-stop with the energy. They impressed me all [Read More]

CONCERT REVIEW: U2 at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl. Written by Jessica Klausing

June 1, 2017

Twitter @OTFlipsideMusic A U2 fan told me she stood over 12 hours in line in the 97 degree heat to see the iconic Irishmen this past Sunday. She was not alone. Thousands of other die-hard fans braved heat exhaustion outside Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Stadium just to ensure a good spot in the general admission pit. Performing their inspiring lyrics and soaring guitar anthems with vitality, U2 makes it evident during their concerts why they have such a loyal fan base. U2—comprised of vocalist Bono, guitarist and keyboardist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton, and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. –came out to play a mind blowing two-hour set in honor of their groundbreaking 1987 album, The Joshua Tree.   The Joshua Tree ponders the core values of the American dream. These tracks reflect drug addiction, war, death, and discrimination. These powerful themes are every bit as relevant now as they were in the 80s. The band took the B-stage for the opener, “Sunday Bloody Sunday” off the 1983 album, War. Next, The Edge riffed right into the [Read More]

Concert review: Kieran Robertson with Ravenfield. Contributed by Alex Bock

May 24, 2017

Munich, Garage Deluxe, May 6th 2017 Kieran Robertson, a young musician from Scotland, made stop in Munich that night at the Garage Deluxe. A small cozy club close to Munich East train station. Small as it is, it has some awesome acts on its schedule. It’s hard to draw people on a Saturday in a city like Munich, where there’s clubs and venues on end. So only a few people showed up that night. A fact that didn’t stop Kieran though from delivering an awesome performance. Kieran recently played guitar on some US-shows for Geoff Tate (ex-Queensryche) and there’ll be more collaboration after that small tour through Germany is done. There’s only three German dates set this time. One of them was Munich. So if you want to check Kieran Robertson out live, I suggest you catch him in Hamburg on May 26th at Marias Ballroom or Berlin on May 27th at the Maze. Don’t’ miss it! Opening act in Munich was a local band called Ravenfield. Make sure to follow Kieran on social [Read More]

The duo Mitré soars and harmonizes at DTLA’s  plush Continental Club.

May 21, 2017

Patrick O’Heffernan (Los Angeles) The duo  Mitre, composed of Louis Mitré and Andie Sandóval,  introduced new songs and old favorites at a BMI showcase sponsored by Peroni at the plush Continental Club in downtown Los Angeles Friday night. They were joined, as usual, by Hugo Melendez in his La Katarina persona, delighting the jam-packed room with his startlingly accurate costume and make up by Ruben Lopez. While the new duo has appeared in several live events around Los Angles over the past few months, this was an official coming out party in a major club in both English and Spanish (all the songs were in Spanish but the conversations from the stage was bi-lingual). Louis Mitre has worked with a number of female singers-songwriters over the past year or so including Alih Jey and Irene Diaz, to add female color to his own astonishingly rich voice.  Andie Sandoval, a singer-songwriter originally from Sinaloa in Mexico seems to be the perfect complement, both in vocal range, songwriting and stage presence, hence the new duo. They opened [Read More]

Interview with Justin of Blue October ahead of their stellar performance at The Fillmore in San Francisco

May 20, 2017

Earlier this week we headed to the legendary Fillmore as Blue October brought the Heart Go Bang Tour to San Francisco. We have impatiently waited for this date to arrive. See, Blue October was not just another band for us to cover, they are a band that had provided the playlist to my life’s ups and downs for the past 20 years. Most recently in March, during my Mother’s hospice care at home, she would lay next to me and listen to Blue October, nearly silent for days, yet show would respond and tell me she liked the songs. Her favorite during that time, The Feel Again, (Stay).  What a heavy song and yet, I truly clutched to those words… Stay… selfishly I wanted more time with her.  After she passed away, I could feel the dark depression setting in as it had with my Father 5 years earlier. But I turned to music and once again to Blue October. Their latest album, Home which shot up the charts to a No. 1 spot [Read More]
