The location that Black Veil Brides played at is close to one of our bigger train stations. It’s a big area of clubs and venues and since it was a Saturday night is was swarming with people. Always a hard time to find a parking space and it had just started raining about an hour ago. So after I finally found a place to park my car, I headed to the venue and got there when they already had started to let people in, so I at least didn’t need to queue. We were two photographers. They told us to wait until we would be lead to the photo pit for the first band to shoot. After a while they seem to have decided that we could get in by ourselves. So when I was finally entering the venue, it was packed and Like A Storm had just started to play, about 15 minutes before the announced show start. There was no way of getting through to the stage, so I had to get back and ask for a side entrance. Even from there I had to get through parts of the crowd close to the stage to get to the photo-pit. Those were my only negative experiences of that evening, because there were some pretty hostile people over there, that blocked me on purpose and started to yell at me. I was really surprised how hateful some people can be. But I finally made it through, thanks to a tall nice security guy that backed me up. The first songs was almost over when I made it to the front, but as you will see, I could manage to take some pictures anyway…….

So the first band to play that night was, as mentioned before, Like A Storm. They are three brothers from New Zealand, now residents of Toronto. I wouldn’t put them into any genre music-wise. The play awesome rock music with elements that show where they come from, like the didgeridoo they use on their probably most famous track so far ‘Love The Way You Hate Me’. Their recent album called ‘Awaken The Fire” was just released about a week ago. It was their first time in Germany, but so far, the tour went pretty well, so there’s hope for a return of the band. From what I heard and read on the internet, they are an awesome live band and that’s what they showed everyone yesterday. They delivered a high-energy set and from the fans responses after the show, I think it’s safe to say, they made tons of new fans.

Second on the bill were Fearless Vampire Killers, a five piece band from the UK. I’ve seen them for the third time that night and they’re really growing on me. They already released two records and two books that Laurence Beveridge, one of the two vocalists of the band, wrote. Their recent record ‘Unbreakable Hearts’ was released at the end of 2014. They played many songs of that record, like ‘Neon In The Dance Halls’ (my personal favorite), ‘Maeby’ (which they’ll release a video to soon) and the title track ‘Unbreakable Hearts’. I love the energy they bring on stage, the fact that they have two awesome vocalists, Kier and Laurence, that both also play guitar. So when Kier sings, Laurence plays guitar and vice versa. I’d love to see them headline in Germany to hear more of their music live. Since their record follows a story it would be awesome to see more of the songs performed. They might come back to Germany again in 2015, so keep your eyes peeled for them.

The more the stage design looked like a Black Veil Brides one, the louder were the cheers for the main act. Even though a small stage, they had the two monitors on either side of the stage, where images were shown throughout the whole show. First one to enter the stage was CC that was greeted with even louder cheers and screams from the audience. The started the set off with ‘Heart Of Fire’ from their recent self-titled record ‘Black Veil Brides’. Throughout the show they played tracks from every release so far, even B-Sides like ‘Coffin’ or ‘Let you down’. They had two cover songs this time, one being Billy Idols’ ‘Rebel Yell’ and the newly added ‘Kickstart My Heart’, an amazing song by Mötley Crüe, which I’d say the greater part of the audience, being in their teens, didn’t seem to know. Because as far as I could see, no one could sing along with that one. Throughout the set Andy talked a few times to the audience, once trying to get them into kind of a game, but giving up pretty fast, when the reactions weren’t what he hoped them to be. Just to clear the picture there might be of German fans, we speak English, but at the age that most of the audience was, their English might not be that far advanced than it is with ‘more mature’ people. So please be patient, after all we’re not native speakers. What would a BVB show be, without CC’s drum solo, which he did about half way through the set. As for older songs they played ‘Knives And Pens’, ‘Sweet Blasphemy’, which they dedicated to a dear friend of them and ‘Fallen Angels’ which marked the end of the set. But for anyone that saw BVB live since ‘Wretched and Divine’ was released, it was clear what’s about to come. So after the ‘one more song’ cheers that belong to every concert, the band came out again for the final song of the evening, that was (surprise, surprise) ‘In The End’, their probably most popular track still.

Andy’s been getting sick throughout the beginning of the European tour, they even had to cancel one of the shows they played with Steel Panther in the Netherlands. But despite that, he did an awesome performance. He gave it all (pun intended) and they played an awesome set that both band and fans enjoyed equally. Hanging around the venue I heard many of the younger ones say that it was the best day of their lives so far, so what’s to add to that……
