James Bay put on an extraordinary performance tonight at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco. It was a show that I had been waiting months for. The venue was filled to capacity for the sold out show, the second show of the tour. The night kicked off with a beautiful set from amazing singer/songwriter/guitarist David Ryan Harris. David brought to life the stories of his music, his smooth voice inviting the listener to take a musical journey.
The crowd loved David’s set and they were anxious for James to begin. From the second he hit the stage, the crowd went wild. He started right off with a new song Wasted on Each Other followed by his new single Pink Lemonade. Both songs are off his highly anticipated second studio album, Electric Light, due out on May 18th. The night continued on with a performance that was pure bliss! James energy was electrifying and his passion radiates as he sings. His charismatic personality reigns with his stage presence. I glanced across the crowd to see smiling faces that were taking it all in. They were completely “in the moment” and singing along to all their favorite songs. I could see so many faces that were filled with emotion, it truly touched me.
Tonight I learned something knew about myself. I have come to the realization that after the fire, I listen to music differently. Music has always been my life and I have always turned to it in good times and bad times. But it is more than that. It is, as if I listen deeper, I feel it deeper, I let it take over me. It feeds my soul and speaks to me. It is the music that matters to me. Not the fact that I lost all my music collections, or all my music memorabilia or my treasured vinyls. It is the music that matters and the music that comforts. It lifts my spirits and guides my way. Tonight the music was there to remind me that everything will be alright and we will make it through this difficult time. Check out photos by our Rockin Ryan:
