We are excited to share with you the wonderful news that guitarist extraordinaire Joe Perry returned to the stage last night with the Hollywood Vampires. The venue Weill Hall Green Music Center in Rohnert Park in Rohnert Park was packed as everyone awaited the arrival of the Hollywood Vampires. It is a beautiful venue on the grounds of Sonoma State University that not only houses an indoor venue but the show is enjoyed by thousands who are enjoying the concert at tables on one of the grassy terraces, or on their own blankets or folding chairs on the lawn.
The show kicked off with a short entertaining video introduction that highlights the musicians that they are playing tribute to and the crowd went wild as they went right into performing their song, Raise the Dead. The strong set included excellent covers from so many bands, The Who, David Bowie, the Doors, Spirit, T Rex, Aerosmith and many more. They were incredible since the Hollywood Vampires truly take the song and really just infuse it with even more energy, taking them to even higher levels of hit songs. Alice commented in our interview,
…. And these were the guys we used to drink with. I mean Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison and those guys were our big brothers. So, when we first started doing this, this show, Johnny and I said it would be great to do a bar band. Be a bar band again. Except we are paying tribute to all of our “Dead Drunk Friends”. That is exactly what it is. …… I mean the band is so solid and so strong. When we do a Doors song, I mean we really do it. We don’t just play it. If we do a T Rex song, we really do it, we give it a little more energy than the record actually had.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Alice Cooper earlier in the week and we had discussed his show and the songs. You can listen to the entire interview here:
We had heard about how we were in for a ride but I have to tell you, it was even more spectacular than anticipated. The crowd was filled with rockers of all ages and everyone was having a fantastic time. Up on the lawn you could see young kids dancing around and rocking out, alongside their parents as they were singing all the words. It was beautiful to see how generations were brought together for the pure love of ROCK n ROLL!

That’s so cool they played there! I’ve never been to that event center, but I’ve been to the SOMO event center and Sally Tomatoes many times. That’s probably my favorite event center in Sonoma County. It’s awesome because you eat, drink and see a show- all at the same place.
