Matt Hires new EP Heartache Machine is climbing the charts!

Matt Hires

Matt Hires released a new EP earlier this week, “Heartache Machine” and it features four new songs and follows up to last year’s “THIS WORLD WON’T LAST FOREVER, BUT TONIGHT WE CAN PRETEND.”  What is very exciting about this new EP is that Matt has returned to independent level after spending 6 years with Atlantic Records.  Regarding the recent change, Hires said, “Making the leap to independence has been really freeing and invigorating for me as an artist. I love that I’m able to get songs from the studio and into people’s ears in just a little over two months. It’s definitely a little scary, but I think it’s going to be really good for me and good for my fans. With ‘Heartache Machine,’ I feel like I was able to break into a totally new level of honesty in my songwriting and I think it comes through in the recordings.

His return to the independent level reminds me of my favorite quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“Do not go where the path may lead,

go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. “

Matt’s new EP has led him down a new path but yet we are once again treated to the wonderful songwriting and singing by him. The EP has been very well received and has been rapidly climbing up the top ten on the Itunes Singer/Songwriter chart and I am sure it will continue to climb. His first song Heartache Machine has a catchy melody with emotionally driven lyrics that will have you singing along with the backing vocals in no time. You can check out the video here:

I’m On Your Side is a beautiful song protesting one’s love and devotion to that special person. It is that “In Your Eyes” blaring on the boombox in John Cusack’s hands song. One, that reminds you of that young beautiful love and Matt does a beautiful way of expressing it.

I Know, I Know brings a highlight to Matt’s passionate and emotionally stirring lyrics in this tune. Matt’s narrative style in his songs create such an intensity that you really feel the words and notes touch you.

No Starting Over is a very moving song that will have you reflecting on your life. Matt’s warm vocals create almost an ethereal or celestial vibe. It is a beautiful touching song.

You can pick up the new EP, Heartache Machine on Itunes or other online retailers. Matt is set to hit the road on April 21st on a co-headlining acoustic tour with friend and collaborator, Alex Dezen from The Damnwells. After the acoustic tour with Dezen, Hires will embark on a headlining tour with a full band. Matt explains, “I’ve been off of the road for about six months now, and I really can’t wait to get out and start playing again. I was able to be a part of some pretty big tours last year. That allowed me to grow a lot as a performer. I’ll be doing some house shows and some acoustic shows and some full band shows coming up, so it will be awesome to be able to share my new songs, (and old ones), with people in those different settings.”  Check out the upcoming tour dates:
