POND Delivers a Psychedelic Storm at Regency Ballroom

POND, the Australian psych-rock powerhouse, graced San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom with an unforgettable performance that left fans in awe. As one of the final dates on their U.S. tour, the band brought their all, delivering a dynamic and electric show that will be remembered as a high point in the city’s concert history.

The evening kicked off with a refreshing  set by FazerDaze, a duo from New Zealand, whose playful energy warmed up the crowd in anticipation of POND’s arrival. Their unique sound and engaging performance were met with a warm reception, setting the tone for the night ahead.

When POND took the stage, it was immediately clear that this was no ordinary concert. The San Francisco audience was treated to a spectacular light show with 60s-inspired psychedelic visuals and lighting by Lance Gordon that perfectly complemented their sound. This special setup by Mad Alchemy, crafted uniquely for San Francisco, elevated the performance into a truly immersive experience.

Touring in support of their 10th studio album, Stung!, POND showcased several tracks from the record, including a raucous rendition of “Black Lung,” which sent the crowd into a frenzy. Frontman Nick Allbrook commanded the stage with his boundless energy, blending the charisma of Mick Jagger with the raw edge of Iggy Pop, all while adding his own flair.

Guitarist Joseph Ryan shredded through fuzzy riffs, even throwing in some cowbell for good measure, while the ever-versatile Matt Handley, typically their guitar tech, filled in on drums for parts of the set, alongside with Jay Watson. The seamless instrument-swapping among band members showcased their immense talent and created a rich, full sound that had the crowd completely enthralled.

POND’s genre-defying music resonated with fans of all stripes, from punk rockers to stoner rock devotees and pop enthusiasts. Highlights included Nick’s frequent interaction with the audience, culminating in an epic crowd-surfing moment—a rare sight at the Regency Ballroom. The crowd reciprocated with unmatched energy, forming a lively mosh pit that mirrored the band’s intensity.

This was not just a concert; it was an electrifying celebration of music and connection. POND proved once again why they’re one of the most exciting live acts today, leaving their mark on San Francisco’s musical history.
