The band comments:
“We are happy to present our frist single with “They Fear Us”. We have particularly chosen this track, because it reflects the great theme of the record – the discovery and utilisation of inner power, strength, revenge and retaliation; the challenge of male power structures in general, but also in a deeply personal sense. It’s a divine memorandum – they might have hurt us then, but now they fear us and that’s what you should. The ideas reflect in the lyrics, but in the musical selection as well. The vocal sample is a field recording that Sam made during a trip to India after the death of his mother; it’s a priest performing the Ganga-Aarti-ceremony at the Ganges – at this ceremony the mother Ganga is invited and is asked for her blessing, which reflects the power of the divine feminity. The drumbeat is raised so high that a similar sound like a Dhol is created.”
Ithaca are one of the most exciting acts in the British heavy scene. Founded by the mutual love for metallic Hardcore and the despair about its lacking ambition, Ithaca question everything that you expect from a band that is making heavy music.
The band combines the brutality of Metalcore from Relapse Records seamlessly with Blackgaze, Industrial Metal from the ’90s, Prog from the ’70s, and even a touch of Power Pop from the ’80s. Their influence goes far beyond the musical aspects – this record comes with a clear vision and aesthetic: It draws from the different inheritances of the band members, crossing non-compliant identities and iconic figures of the Avantgarde-, New Wave- and Post-Punk-culture.
Their upcoming second record “They Fear Us” is the sound of a band that recovered from a trauma – with their own, pure voice. Angry and wildly inventive but also coherent and accessible, this new album will introduce Ithaca to a larger audience than they ever had before. In the words of the band:
“Those who oppose us; your sins will catch up to you. You will fear us.”
