Interview with Daydream XI as they launch campaign for concept double album

"The Circus of the Tattered and Torn"

Daydream XI

We recently shared with you the news that the Brazilian progressive metal band, Daydream XI have launched a PledgeMusic campaign “THE CIRCUS OF THE TATTERED AND TORN” with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Wild Animal Sanctuary.  They are working on achieving funding for new concept double album and fans will have access to exclusive PledgeMusic items including personalized postcards, signed CDs, songbooks, music lessons, personalized ring tones, intimate concert experiences and more.

The new music will be delivered to Pledgers in June, months before the general album release. 5% of any money raised after the goal is reached will benefit The Wild Animal Sanctuary (http://www.wildanimalsanctuary.org/), the world’s largest carnivore sanctuary, home to hundreds of wildlife rescued from captivity. We had the chance to chat with Tiago Masseti (vocals and guitar) and check it out here:

Music Junkie Press: You guys have a great new campaign out for your new concept album, “The Circus of the Tattered and Torn”. You guys mention that the album will be heavier and darker, can you tell us more about what to expect from this new album?

Tiago: Yes, thanks to a couple of months of intense work and the help of the amazing PledgeMusic team, the campaign is looking great! After performing on Progressive Nation at Sea, spending a little time in the US and the whole promotion course of our debut, we got in touch with the progressive music scene in a more profound way. We started listening to a whole new set of bands and expanding our influences. Our songwriting now is a little less conformed than it used to be. We are experimenting with different sounds and moods within each song so you can expect to listen to some deeply emotional moments, some really heavy stuff and a couple of intricate instrumental moments. And the darker side is not only a sonic aspect but lyrical as well.

Music Junkie Press: You guys have not only a dedicated fanbase but also have been successful at taking things into your own hands, and your fans support you with the making of the album. There are some very cool perks for the pledges, can you tell us what some of your favorites are?

Tiago: Yes, and we feel very fortunate for that. With the exclusives we tried to, in some way, give back that dedication. The whole time we tried to think as if we were the fans. We kept questioning ourselves: “if this was a campaign for this band or that band, what would I want from them?” My favorite would be the Barbershop Choir Thank You Greeting. I think this is going to be the exclusive we will have the most fun fulfilling it. But I also think that’s pretty amazing that the guys are writing entire songbooks with the whole album transcribed into tabs.

Music Junkie Press:  Your music not only kicks ass with some heavy prog metal but you also make an effort to bring out a message through your song, what is the biggest message you would like for everyone to take from this new album?

Tiago: Thanks for that. That’s really why we are making music. The shredding and the high notes are something that are a part of what we are as musicians but just because of the context we found ourselves into, as far as influences and musical background goes. We never use it as an end, just as a means to express something. I think that, more than an specific message, what we are trying to do this time is to generate some reflection on human relations, how we are drawn to each other and how desperate we are to see a little spark of humanity behind a wall of credentials.

Music Junkie Press:  We understand that you are also donating a portion of the proceeds for the Wild Animal Sanctuary, can you tell us how you got involved with that cause.

Tiago: Most of the themes on the album are about people and the way we feel in our flawed condition of semi-intelligent beings. And everything is always about people, when it comes to the big picture. As humans we didn’t really care for other species for our entire existence. So, “The Circus of the Tattered and Torn” is about people, for people and is an animal-free circus with no confused, tortured animals serving as quick entertainment for our sadness. And since we are acknowledging that, we thought we could also help a few of those animals. It’s not a solution to anything, and we’re not pretending it is, but it’s better than nothing.

Music Junkie Press:  Lastly, is there anything else you would like to share with our audience and your fans?

Tiago: First of all, thank you for having us in Music Junkie Press. We are music addicts ourselves and are glad to be on it. To everyone reading, thank you very much for your support. Go check out our PledgeMusic campaign and see if there is any item you desire. If you can, help us out, be a part of this new album. You can also find us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and all. Let us know what you think, what you want to hear from us and, no matter how this goes, we will see you on the road, sooner or later! See you then.
