Chelsea Dash has continued to capture the attention of many with her infectious new songs that become your new faves. Earlier this year she released her lyric video for her song, Massive Attack. The sultry pop track will bring you to your feet and a beat in your step. We had the opportunity to chat with Chelsea and are pleased to bring you the interview here:
Music Junkie Press: Thank you for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press. We have been enjoying the new lyric video for Massive Attack. Great new infectious track. Can you tell me about what inspired you for the song?
Chelsea: Thanks! I’m stoked to chat with Music Junkie Press! With Massive Attack, I wanted to make a song that had a total badass and mysterious trip hop vibe to it but also touched on a deeper subject. At first listen it comes off as a 007/femme fatale story but when you really dive into it , there’s also another layer to it, of going after what you want, being willing to fight for it, standing up for yourself and never giving up no matter what the cost.
Music Junkie Press: Your style defines no genre boundaries which I love and we hear hints of many various influences. Can you tell us who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Chelsea: I’m glad you caught that! Very cool. I have such eclectic musical taste which can be attributed to my parents, and also attending Berklee. I was exposed to classic rock by my dad at a very young age and pop/rnb by my mom, then classical music in school. Then, In high school, socially, I was very into hip hop and always wanted to blend elements of hip hop tracks with catchy pop hooks. Berklee only furthered that and I think all that pokes through a lot in my songs. Artist wise, I could never get sick of Justin Timberlake or Beyonce or Aretha Franklin!
Music Junkie Press: What are you currently working on?
Chelsea: I’m always writing songs but my big project right now is doing pre-production for my next music video for “Quicksand” which will be the 3rd single off my record. We’re brainstorming and trying to get the story line right for the video at the moment.
Music Junkie Press: Do you have a particular songwriting process? Where is the oddest place you have ever received your inspiration for writing?
Chelsea: Everytime I write a song it’s a different process. Sometimes I’m in the studio, sometimes I’m in my bedroom. I actually wrote one of my favorite songs, called “Bad Girl” in the shower! I guess that’s probably a very strange place to be inspired, washing my hair!
Music Junkie Press: If we could peak into your Ipod, what artist or song might be most surprising for us to find in there?
Chelsea: Rachmaninoff -”Prelude in C Sharp Minor, Op. 3, No. 2”
Music Junkie Press: How old were you when you first started your passion for music?
Chelsea: Very very young! The story goes, I could sing before I could talk!
Music Junkie Press: If you could collaborate with any musician on a song, who would you like to work with?
Chelsea: Justin Timberlake. He’s a brilliant musician. I don’t think a lot of people know that he writes songs for other artists and also produces other artists in addition to his own solo stuff.
Music Junkie Press: Can you bring us back to that first performance?
Chelsea: I don’t totally remember it, but I’m told that I used to perform pop songs from my mom’s cassette tapes at my pre-school’s “Show & Tell” days. One time I sang “Like A Virgin” and was almost expelled because of it!
Music Junkie Press: Do you have any preshow or pre-recording rituals?
Chelsea: I always warm up vocally, and get a workout in to warm up physically. And I drink a lot of tea! Caffeine and I are very good friends.
Music Junkie Press: Will you be working on new videos and is planned for the summer?
Chelsea: Yes! Quicksand is the video we’re doing next that I mentioned before. That’s taking up a lot of time to plan; so much goes into making a music video! Hoping to shoot it in August. Before that though, the official Music Video for Massive Attack with be released and I’m sure I’ll be busy promoting that too!
Music Junkie Press: Lastly is there something you would like to share with our audience and your fans?
Chelsea: I love connecting with people! The best ways are thru facebook and instagram, though Twitter is also great. Here’s where you can connect with me!
