Sky White of Foxy Shazam developed his love for tasting and experiencing premium quality tea while he was busy touring the world with Foxy Shazam. His love of the tea led him to his new creative project as he sets out to share his passion for fine teas for enthusiasts and novices alike.
Since launch of his independent small company, Wendigo Tea Co. it has grown immensely through a thriving online storefront, selective retail positioning and inclusion on the menus of several fine dining establishments. Sky White comments,
“I started with tea just like everybody else. I drank whatever came in tea bags and bought something that looked cute on the shelf. Once I started traveling all the time and going into tea shops, I started having an appreciation for the actual flavors of good tea, instead of the flavors that people add into tea.”
I love learning about musician’s other projects and Wendigo Tea immediately captured my interest, having been a long time tea drinker. After experiencing first hand the high grade craft teas, it is no surprise it has been well received with high accolades. Sky has delivered premium quality teas at an affordable price that will satisfy the taste buds of even the most discerning tea enthusiasts. We tried all three products, Bigfoot Black, Wendigo Green and Nessy Jasmine, each one with it’s own unique style.
We started with the mighty Bigfoot Black. This is a pure powerful black tea. I have tried many black teas in the past but none have been quite as powerful as the Bigfoot. It delivers a rich blend that brings out a natural sweetness with a nutty flair. It calls for a heaping teaspoon per 8 ounces and I found myself adjusting it to about 1/2 to 3/4 of a teaspoon for my preferences. The high quality tea lends itself to being steeped repeatedly and still maintain it’s aroma and taste. The Bigfoot is wonderful hot or cold and we have made a couple new drinks that have become our summer faves. One is our Bigfoot and Raspberry Ice Tea where we add fresh raspberries, light sweetener like Stevia and a dash of lemon to the steeping process. We will be bringing you our recipes next week.
I am a big lover of Green Tee and what I have experienced before with other teas is they tend to have a cutting or sharp taste to them. That is not what I get with Wendigo Green Tea. It has a smoothness that draws you in and then has you experiencing the intricate flavors. Many people have been drawn to Green Tea for it’s antioxidants and health benefits. But if they are just reaching for any Green Tea, they could be shortchanging themselves by not experiencing the full flavors of a high grade Green Tea. I find that Agave nectar is the perfect sweetener for Wendigo Green Tea and brings out an even richer taste with out becoming overbearing. I enjoy my Green Tea hot but I did make a great Minty Iced Green Tea with adding fresh mint leaves and using honey to sweeten.
Nessy Tea is a high grade Jasmine scented tea that is not only subtly sweet but delivers a highly fragrant pleasant aroma. Think of this tea as the perfect tea to compliment an experience. I find that the aromatic flavors of a tea highlight a moment. I have sipped my Nessy tea on our porch watching the hummingbirds and butterflies swirl in my garden. I have also enjoyed it’s flavor and aroma curled up on the couch with a good book. I have yet to enjoy it in front of a roaring fire but I am planning on it this Winter. For Nessy, I have only tried it hot but it is the perfect companion for light desserts.
I hope you get a chance to try all of the Wendigo Teas. To get started trying all three teas, you can pick up the Wendigo Tea Sampler which is a tower holding the three blends. For brewing of my tea, I used the EZ Brew Perfect Tea & Coffee Maker that they have available on their website. They also have Bell Glass Teapot with Infuser and Curve Style Tea Cup with Infuser.
