Grammy nominated rockers, NEEDTOBREATHE have partnered with the nonprofit OneWorldHealth for over three years out of their hometown of Charleston. They have been strong believers that music can be a vehicle for change and they truly are making a change. They have announced that they will be heading to Tola, Nicaragua in January 2017 to open the NEEDTOBREATHE + OneWorld Health Medical Center.

Bear Rinehart comments,

“We continue to be humbled by our fans and the way they have come along side of us to open the first ever NEEDTOBREATHE medical center in Tola. We love what we do and this healthcare center is a direct reflection of why we do what we do.”

On a mission to bring sustainable healthcare to East Africa and Central America,  the band hosts The NEEDTOBREATHE Classic golf tournament and auction annually in Charleston, as well as giving $1 from every concert ticket sold directly to OneWorld Health (OWH). Through these initiatives, the band has successfully raised the funds to open a medical center in Tola, Nicaragua – a region of Nicaragua with over 40,000 people, of which more than 30 percent live in high or extreme poverty and lack an accessible, affordable medical center that can address common diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and arthritis.

The establishment of a well-equipped, low-cost primary care facility is a vital solution to the health care needs in the region. While investing directly in the region’s health, the project will also make a significant contribution to Tola’s economic development. OWH’s NEEDTOBREATHE Medical Center is situated directly on the main public transit route— allowing efficient access for those traveling from the surrounding rural and semi-urban areas.
