Joe Keery and his music project Djo delivered an unforgettable, sold-out show at the Fox Theater in Oakland, proving once again that he’s more than just Steve Harrington from Stranger Things—he’s a full-blown rockstar. As fans arrived early, the line wrapped around the block, buzzing with anticipation and excitement that pulsed through the venue like electricity.
Opening the night was Post Animal, who delivered a killer set that had the crowd fired up from the start. In a special moment of musical reunion, Joe joined his former bandmates on stage to close out their set, playing a couple of songs that had the audience absolutely losing it. The chemistry between them was undeniable—natural, tight, and full of joy.
When Djo finally hit the stage, the crowd was ready—and they kicked things off strong with the infectious track “Runner.” From that first note to the final encore, the energy never let up. Fans sang every word, danced without hesitation, and matched the music’s intensity with sheer passion. Joe commanded the stage not only with his vocals but with his fan-fucking-tastic guitar skills. His charisma radiated, making it impossible to take your eyes off him.
Djo’s latest album The Crux has been receiving well-deserved praise, and hearing the tracks performed live brought them to an entirely new level. Highlights of the night included mesmerizing renditions of “Fly,” “Potion,” and “Gaptooth Smile,” each performed with raw emotion and tight instrumentation. Of course, the crowd went absolutely wild for “Basic Being Basic,” a true anthem that had the whole theater singing in unison.
As the set neared its close, “End of Beginning” became a transcendental moment. The entire venue seemed to merge into one unified feeling—of connection, nostalgia, and that unexplainable magic that only music can bring. It was the kind of moment that stays with you.
Djo wrapped up the night with a high-energy encore featuring “Back On You” and “Flash Mountain,” leaving everyone stunned and satisfied—but still desperately wanting more. If there’s one thing certain after this show, it’s that Djo has solidified their place as a must-see live act. Joe Keery is the real deal. Check out photos by our Rockin Ryan:
