Hey Violet have been quite busy rocking the stages with 5 Seconds of Summer this summer for the Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour.  The highly successful tour has taken them across Europe and is currently in the US leg of the tour.  We were excited when we learned of their plans to have their first US headlining show at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.

The fans were lined up early as the line circled around the block, many of them arriving several hours before doors. Fans came from all over and we even had the chance to chat with a young new singer, Bronnie of Revolution97 who traveled from London. The youthful energy and excitement was running rampant through the crowd as they filled the Troubadour to capacity. The opening act was the very talented James TW, a soulful pop singer from London. He captured the crowd’s attention and we really enjoyed his set. He carries great emotion when he performs and along with his catchy lyrics and soulful voice, he was a definite crowd pleaser.

The crowd was restless waiting for Hey Violet as they began chanting for the band and the adrenaline raced through the crowd. Hey Violet took to the stage and it went wild in the Troubador with screaming fans. It was quite surreal to watch from above and see the crowd reaction when they perform. If the energy was already at high levels before they hit the stage, it was now off the charts. The intensity and passion that these four musicians play with, is quite unrivaled these days. When you watch them. it is so apparent how much each of them enjoys playing for the crowd. They give 150% on each and every song and you will immediately fall in love with them.

Their infectious songs are not only catchy but a much needed burst of feel good music! You can’t hold still when they are playing, as you find yourself taken over by the music and all your worries fade away. Rena’s powerful vocals sent the energy racing through the Troubadour and Casey was once again a madman on the guitar as he was rockin the stage. Miranda does an extraordinary job on rhythm guitar, backing vocals and keyboards. She has such a bubbly personality that invites the crowd to have the best time of their lives. I have said it before and it is so true, Nia is one of the fiercest drummers and she makes it look so easy. She is smiling along as she completely rocks nonstop during the set. Hey Violet have created a larger than life sound that will capture the hearts of the young and old alike. The teens and parents were all having a good time as the feel good punk infused rock music of Hey Violet holds no boundaries of genres or age.

Their set included a couple stellar covers, Taylor Swift’s Blank Space and also Billy Idol’s Dancing With Myself. Both were incredible as they fueled the songs with a dose of high energy and youthful enthusiasm. It was great to see so many young fans singing along to Dancing With Myself, a song that will always take me back to my youth; my friends and I would dance around in our school uniforms like the original video. Excellent choice of covers. Their set for the night was as follows:

  • This Is Why
  • I Can Feel It
  • Smash Into You
  • Blank Space (Taylor Swift cover)
  • Can’t Take Back the Bullet
  • Lights
  • I’m There
  • Sparks Fly
  • Make Up
  • Dancing With Myself (Billy Idol cover)
  • Love Me Like You Should

Make sure to pick up their newly released five song EP, I Can Feel It. It is exactly what the doctor ordered. Feel good music that builds you up and is an instant mood elevator. Check out a video of You Don’t Love Me Like You Should which features live footage from their London show:
