Hillbomb delivers punk set at Zumiez in the local mall

In a time when malls across the country are slowly disappearing, Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo, CA proved yesterday that there’s still plenty of life and loud music left at the mall.

Local skate punk band Hillbomb took over Zumiez for what was supposed to be one set and turned it into two, as lines of fans wrapped around the mall. And this wasn’t your typical in-store appearance. Imagine walking into Zumiez and finding yourself in the middle of an incredible punk set, complete with moshing and a circle pit. That’s exactly what Hillbomb delivered.

The local band has been making some big moves in the music scene, and yesterday showed exactly why. Hillbomb tore through an intense set featuring their own music along with a killer Descendents cover, bringing the kind of raw energy you’d expect from a packed punk club;  except this time, it was happening right in the middle of the mall. Local punk scene concert goer, Brandon Richardson commented,

“These sets were insane! Even as they were performing, Phoenix the singer crowdsurfed, Gavin on drums was fierce and fast with the beats, and their newest member Donovan on guitar fit in perfectly and ramped up the energy with killer riffs. It was amazing to be part of it!”

We can’t wait to see what Hillbomb has in store next. Earlier this year, Hillbomb released their EP Life Sentence which you can pick up on Bandcamp or listen on Spotify.  You can check out some video clips from their set below:

Huge kudos to Zumiez for opening its doors to live music and bringing back something we’ve been missing,  those good old days when the mall wasn’t just a place to shop, but a place to hang out, discover music, and make memories.

Punk rock at the mall? Hell yes! We are here for it.
