Yesterday was the funeral for the beautiful mother of Jake Pitts (Black Veil Brides) Carolyn Marie Carlson-Pitts. Carolyn died unexpectedly at the young age of 58 on January 18th, 2014. We all know that we someday will have to endure the loss of our parents and it is quite painful and devastating. I, myself lost my best friend, my father just over 2 years ago on September 2nd, 2011 and not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.
Jake posted the photo below on his instagram with the following caption:
‘Words cannot describe the feelings, thoughts, prayers, cries, and laughter today. I had to face something everyone will have to one day but I didn’t expect this for another 20 years. Today my mother Carolyn was laid to rest while I’ll wear a piece of her around my neck and take her to places she’s never been. My mother wasn’t normal, just like me, and so many others. But she was a musical genius and taught me the things my small brain could comprehend to get me where I am today. Mom, I thank you for everything you have taught me and given me. I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I will truly miss you and I hope you can hear me each day I talk to you. I love you mom. Please rest in peace, and I promise to take care of your pianos, and continue to make them sing.”
Carolyn was born in Osage, Iowa on July 5th, 1955 and led quite a musical life as she participated in band and choir. She played the piano, was a self taught guitar player, and had a love to write songs and sing and play with her guitar. Her love of music blended with her church involvement as she should perform with her own church music groups as well as other churches.
“Survivors include her children, Sarah (Pitts) Lowry of Meridian, Idaho and her son, Jacob Pitts of Los Angeles, California, her two grandchildren, Aidan Lowry and Minka Lowry, her son in-law Kevin Lowry and future daughter-in-law Ella Cole as well as her brothers and sister and their families, Lark Carlson Brown (George Brown) of New Ulm, MN, Joe Carlson (Linda) of Danube, MN, and Robert Carlson of Willmar, MN, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Doris (Havens) Carlson and Orley Carlson.”
We want to send Jake and his family our prayers and sincerest condolences during this difficult time. We hope that mixed with the sorrow and pain, you find happiness and love through the cherished memories you have of your beloved mother.
You can also check out the beautiful song by Black Veil Brides, Carolyn. It was written by frontman Andy Biersack as he explained to Artist Direct: “It’s the first song that I ever wrote lyrically from someone else’s perspective. It’s about Jake’s mother who has struggled with illness and how he felt. When you find out that someone’s sick, there’s nothing you can really do except say that you’re there and you’re going to try to help or do whatever you can. At the end of the day, you can’t really cure someone if they’re sick. I took Jake’s story and tried to put my own perspective on it. Like anything in life, if there’s a situation where you see something terrible is happening and you can’t necessarily stop it, the least you can do is promise you’re going to be there for the person who’s being affected by it.”

sorry about your loss
Dear Jake , I knew your mother in college at Northwest Nazarene University so many years ago. When I read about her passing it brought back many wonderful memories. She loved to sing and play the guitar. Joan Anderson
